A WARNING!

Greetings!

I like comfort.

I like ice cream. I like a leisurely walk. I like to relax.

Nothing wrong with that.

But comfort was never meant to become our calling.

While we enjoy this world, we are not meant to ignore its needs.

We do not conform to this world—we are transformed.

We are not retired—we are warriors.

We are not passengers on a cruise ship—we are rescuers on a rescue ship.

And strangely enough, this is where Christians often find their greatest joy: using the spiritual gifts God has given them to help others.

But God gives us a warning:

“Woe to you who are at ease in Zion, And trust in Mount Samaria, Notable persons in the chief nation, To whom the house of Israel comes!” Amos 6:1 NKJV

Israel had experienced the miracles, provision and faithfulness of God. Yet repeatedly, they became comfortable and forgot the God who had done so much for them.

Comfort slowly became complacency.

So can we learn from them?

Don’t become spiritually lazy.

Don’t become so distracted by this life that you forget why you are here.

Discipline is your friend.

For me, some of my greatest spiritual growth came when I focused on applying my Christianity. Some call it “applied theology.”

It simply means: I want to live what I believe.

I will discipline myself in my faith.

I will set faith-filled spiritual goals.

I will spend time with God.

I will use my spiritual gifts.

I will look for people who need Jesus—and I will speak up.

Christianity was never intended to be something we merely believe on Sunday. It is something we live on Monday.

So make a plan.

Go to the YouVersion Bible App and read my study plan, 7 Habits of Mature Disciples.

Get an accountability partner. Encourage each other. Challenge each other. Help each other succeed.

And then—just do it.

There are people around you who need the hope you carry.

You’re not on a cruise ship. You’re on a rescue ship.

Start looking for someone to rescue today.

God is for you, and He will help you keep His fire burning within you.
