Middlebury Quarry Open House
OMYA offers a day of fun and learning
On Saturday, September 24, 2022, OMYA is holding its Middlebury Quarry Open House from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Casella Construction and Shelburne Limestone Corporation are sponsors of the event.
This event, which started back in 2002, was developed to help the community learn more about Vermont's geology through fun family activities, including rock collecting and a scavenger hunt! Big trucks, drills and mining equipment will be on display, and kids can play in a pile of marble sand and compete with toy trucks.

The Open House is free and open to the public. Complimentary light refreshments will be served.
If you have any questions or would like to speak with someone about the Open House, contact Jill Blanchard at 802.770.7500.
The Rutland Halloween Parade is October 29th!
Can you help us build our float?
It's hard to believe, but Halloween is fast approaching! We had a great concept and float with last year's Scooby Doo theme, but unfortunately, we didn't get to show it off as much as we wanted with the cancellation of the 2021 parade due to weather.
So, we are that much more determined to go all out and show our stuff for this year's Rutland Halloween Parade (the first one since 2019). We've won trophies in the past for Most Original and Most Creative - let's see what we can bring home this year!
As you know, our theme is always top secret, but if you can spare a few hours to come help us build our float, you'll get to see our idea come to life (you will be sworn to secrecy though).
The Rutland Halloween Parade is Saturday, October 29, 2022. We will need the most help on Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29 during the day leading up to the parade. We will also be working on the float every Sunday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm (and a few other days that are TBD and will be announced later). If you are able to help, please join us at Parade Headquarters at Casella Waste's garage, located at 20 Belden Road in Rutland.

If you have any questions, please contact Nicole Webster.
We have a great time getting in the spirit while prepping our float, and build days are always a fun time. We have music playing and lots of laughs throughout the day. Family members, friends, and significant others are welcome to join!
Any help is appreciated, hope to see you there!
Stay Ahead of the Flu
In-house clinics are back this year
Casella Construction will be holding two in-house flu clinics in Pittsford this year - for employees and their family members. VNA nurses will be on site to administer the flu shots on the following days:
Wednesday, September 28
3:00 - 6:00 pm
Wednesday, October 5
3:00 - 6:00 pm
All you need to do is show up to our Pittsford office during the clinic hours, and the nurses will administer your shot - then you will be all set for the upcoming flu season.
Reminder: the flu is classified as "preventable" so the vaccine is covered by insurance. Remember to bring your insurance card with you to the clinic.
If you have any questions about the upcoming flu clinics, please email Kim Lewis or call her at 802.774.1362.
Safety Topic: Cellphone Use
Your well-being is our top priority, which is why we have health and safety practices in place that we uphold and take seriously.

Using a cell phone while on the job reduces situational awareness, decision-making, and overall work performance. Cell phone distractions greatly increase the risk of near-miss events and accidents. They are an avoidable risk and unacceptable hazard. Our sites can be a hazardous environment even without the distraction of cell phones, which is why we have our cell phone policy in place.

Only phones with hands-free capabilities in place should be used. Unless hands-free access is used, no driver shall use a portable electronic device (cell phone) while driving, for any reason. This includes on jobsites, and locations relating to jobsites as well.
Can you answer the question from this week's safety discussion?
Cell phones without hands-free access may only be used when your vehicle is stationary.

False
