Golf will look different in 2020, here's what you need to know!

The number one rule when it comes to playing golf in 2020 is following the COVID-19 guidelines outlined by the Government of Saskatchewan. Read the details on pages 42-43 of the "Re-Open Saskatchewan" plan.

The Rules of Golf have also been modified for play under the current pandemic. Golf Canada released a revised Rules of Golf article that can be found here.

Golf is going to look different this year for clubs and operators. Here's five things you can do to help make sure your local course has a successful season.

Welcome to the season!
It's an exciting day today as golf opens in Saskatchewan. Here's a message from our  Golf Saskatchewan, Manager of Sport Development & Championships Steve Ryde. 
 

Provincial Championships
Golf Saskatchewan will provide an update, on the afternoon of June 15, regarding our provincial events. 

During the COVID-19 pandemic t here have not been any formal postponements or cancellations of any of our events. The planning of how to run safe competitions will continue.

Take advantage of just one member club benefit!

We want to feature your golf club and see what's up for 2020 and beyond!
Our communications director, Clark Stork would like to hear from you and showcase your club. All he asks is a few minutes of any person invested in your club to conduct an interview, either in person, via email, or over the phone to learn more about what golfers expect from their visit to your club.

Last year Regina Beach Golf Club , Little Loon Regional Park , Birch Hills Golf Course , Wakaw Lake Golf Course , and  McNab Regional Park are just a handful of courses that took advantage of the free publicity. Regina Beach's feature article reached over 6,000 people through the Golf Saskatchewan social media channels. All for a few minutes of time!

New World Handicap System for 2020
The new World Handicap System started on Jan. 1. Saskatchewan players' shouldn't notice much change with the system through the Golf Canada Score Centre. A friendly reminder to update your app on your mobile device or go to your app store to download a free version. 

You can use your Golf Canada Score Centre app to keep track of your round on a hole by hole basis as a friendly reminder during COVID-19.



Junior golf opportunities
Any golf course looking to boost their junior numbers or find new ideas for their junior golf program they should join the Future Links community at Golf Canada/Golf Saskatchewan for FREE! 
 
 

As golf is one of the first sports to be allowed to play, there will be more golfers looking to try it out and learn how-to-play the game. Reach out to your local PGA professional & if one is not available in your area, please call or email sryde@golfsaskatchewan.org to setup a private lesson.

SAGE scholarships available

Golf Saskatchewan annually awards a number of scholarships to deserving student candidates who have made major accomplishments in academics, including golf, in Saskatchewan. The scholarships are named for individuals who have made significant contributions to amateur golf in the province.

Golf Saskatchewan also works with Golf Canada to assist young golfers who wish to apply for national scholarships and bursaries through the Golf Canada Foundation. 


To apply for the 2020 SAGE scholarship click here. The application deadline is May 31 at 12 p.m.



Gold membership benefits reminder

Golf Saskatchewan is continuing to remind players about the abundance of benefits when they purchase a Gold Membership package. 
Among the benefits with a Golf Canada Gold membership are:

  • Handicap and score tracking

Golf Canada Is Going Digital to Keep Members Safe:

Due to the COVID19 pandemic, Golf Canada is making a concerted effort to limit physical touchpoints for member club staff and individual member golfers. The introduction of a digital membership card will be available through the app and Score Centre instantaneously upon renewal / registration.
 
Membership packages will still be available for home delivery upon request by an individual member through their Score Centre account.
