ON-RAMP, ROAD CLOSURES PLANNED AS PART OF
I-64/I-264 INTERCHANGE PROJECT WORK
VIRGINIA BEACH – As work on the I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements Project continues, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation have scheduled on-ramp and road closures that will affect travel in the corridor over the next week.

This work, outlined below, is weather-dependent and subject to change.

Detour, flagging operations at Grayson Road
As early as Sunday, March 14, contractor crews will begin utility work on Grayson Road, near Witchduck Road and the I-264 interchange.

Grayson Road will close to through traffic overnight on Sunday, March 14, and Monday, March 15, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Turn lanes from Witchduck Road onto Grayson Road will also be closed during this time. A signed detour will direct motorists to use Witchduck Road and Bonney Road to get around the closure.

After March 15, crews will continue performing daytime work on Grayson Road utilizing lane closures under flagger control so that no full closure is necessary. This work will continue for several weeks, weather permitting.

Local traffic access will be maintained throughout the duration of the work, allowing property owners and patrons to access the properties along Grayson Road at all times. Rouse Drive will remain open to traffic at all times.

Closure of on-ramp from Newtown Road to I-264 east
Beginning as early as Monday, March 15, the on-ramp from Newtown Road (exit 15) to I-264 east will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to allow crews to safely perform road-widening work for the interchange project.

This work is expected to continue through March 19, weather permitting.
The location of the Grayson Road utility work is indicated by the blue and white icon on the above map, with the road closure indicated by black lines. While the work is underway, Grayson Road will be closed to through traffic for approximately two nights, followed by several weeks of nighttime flagging operations.
