ON WHY OBBBA IS A FUB*

ON WHY OBBBA IS A FUB* — A CALL FOR RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENT IN OUR IMMIGRANT NATION

By Will Wright

On July 4th, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) was signed into law. These reflections are solely my own and do not represent the official stance of the AIA|LA Board of Directors. I am personally concerned about its potential impacts, particularly in exacerbating divisions within our nation and disruptions in our communities.

As we strive to uphold the core value of human dignity, strengthen our communities, and celebrate that we are a great nation forged by the power of immigrants, we must also strive to uphold the core values fiscal responsibility and strategic investment.

As we reflect on our nation’s foundational ideals, we reaffirm that democracy is not a static inheritance but a vibrant, continually constructed endeavor. It thrives in our shared spaces, in the dignity we extend to every individual, and in the unwavering belief that this nation is home to all who choose to build their lives here.

BROAD MINDED CITY DOCUMENTARY SCREENING

July 15 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm - @ Center for Communities - FREE for AIA Members + Students

Broad Minded City is a documentary that explores the relationship between Frank Lloyd Wright’s Broadacre City concept and today’s urban sprawl, using Los Angeles as a case study. The film looks at how Wright’s ideas about organic architecture relate to current challenges in urban development — including sustainability, environmental impact, infrastructure, preservation, and transportation.
