ONE|NB Urges Immediate Action To Fund Affordable Housing Initiatives

Jennifer Hawkins, President and CEO of ONE|NB, cautioned lawmakers on Nov. 16 that immediate action is needed to fund affordable housing developments, particularly as American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money is expected to be fully obligated by the end of next year, despite recent progress in funding for such projects.

“When ARPA funding is fully obligated … a question that should be keeping us all up at night is what will fill that hole?” Hawkins said. “We cannot go backwards. We’ve got to continue this momentum.”

Nine Neighborhood Fund Seeks Proposals for Community-Driven Projects

ONE|NB and the Nine Neighborhood Fund are seeking proposals for a series of community projects for Central Providence. This participatory budgeting initiative invites local organizations and businesses to submit proposals for bike distribution, park stewardship, peer mental health, and water filter distribution approved during public voting over the summer.

The submission deadline is Friday, Dec. 15 at 11:59 p.m.

CPO-HEZ brings residents to table to discuss health equity over next 10 years

Around 40 residents from Central Providence Health Equity Zones (HEZ) recently provided feedback on the city’s 10-year Comprehensive Plan.

The residents, from zip codes 02907, 02908, and 02909, collaborated with ONE Central Providence and city planners to review zoning plans and suggest changes promoting health equity.

This feedback process is crucial as it can influence the causes of inequities and affect social determinants of health, including housing investment, environmental justice, community integration, and transit accessibility, among other areas.
