SOLITUDE
a poem by Norman Molesko
You may feel that you are not lonely,
when you are laid-back and leisure around.
You may or may not be busy with something.
Leisure time is not an activity to pooh-pooh.
For you, the time is free and unfettered and your own.
One thing can lead to another when you leisure around.
What may be really important to you,
you are independent as well as being yourself.
Behaving leisurely and not becoming lonely is solitude.

Supporting Caregivers Through Adult Day Services -
Just Released! Archstone Foundation newest report making the case for expanding adult day services (ADS) to support caregivers is now available. The Case for Expanding Caregiver Support Through Adult Day Services highlights key insights from its three-year Family Caregiving Initiative and offers next steps for ADS providers, philanthropy, and policymakers.
In 2018, Archstone Foundation sought to test the theory that the lives of family caregivers of older adults with disabilities could be substantially improved through adult day services providers, awarding grants to five southern California nonprofits to expand caregiver training and supports. The results were clear: supporting caregivers through ADS works, and there is much we can do to expand these critical services and spur a national conversation about their importance. Read the executive summary and the full report here.
We are so grateful to the Archstone Foundation for featuring the work of ONEgeneration's Adult Daycare Program.

Everyday ONEgeneration is supported by volunteers! These dedicated community members, service groups and students support all of our programs and services. Meal drivers help to deliver food to frail home-bound seniors, a friendly face that our older adults can rely on and look forward to seeing as the only person they may talk to that day. Volunteer Careline callers have wellness checks and social visits over the phone with isolated seniors.
As the Senior Enrichment Center opens this month we are so grateful to have returning volunteers to the Front Office, Thrift Corner and teaching classes. Student volunteers and service groups continue to support our Adult Daycare, Meal Programs, Senior Enrichment Center and Sunday Encino Farmers Market!
Thank you to all of the wonderful compassionate volunteers who help our community, we couldn't do it without you, the San Fernando Valley is a better place through your service.

ONEgeneration's Grandparents As Parents program, in partnership with Children's Bureau took a group of grandparents and grandchildren from central Los Angeles to the Aquarium of the Pacific on March 26th. The families were able to take a chartered bus from LA to Long Beach, spend several hours at the aquarium and enjoy at private dinner on the upstairs veranda overlooking the marina. The children and the caregivers all enjoyed the many sights at the aquarium, one caregiver remarked “I’ve never done anything like this, I feel like a queen today!” Thank you to Children’s Bureau for assisting with this event, to the City of Los Angeles for their charter bus program and to the Aquarium of the Pacific for being an amazing venue.
