| | | Encino Farmers Market - Every Sunday 8am to 1pm | | | |
Shopping at the Encino Farmers Market on Sundays supports our programs. Buying locally grown fresh produce also helps to provide home delivered meals to frail older adults. The market is open every Sunday, year-round, from 8am to 1pm. We are located on the same campus as our Adult Daycare and Childcare programs, 17400 Victory Blvd (between White Oak and Balboa). Check out our growers, small businesses, local artisans and more....
On Sunday Feb. 22nd we will be hosting a Book Sale near the back entrance of the market where you can find your next favorite read. 100% of the donations from this booth support ONEgeneration thanks to our wonderful volunteers. The Bagel Booth and ONEgeneration Boutique next to it also donation 100% of their proceeds supported by the volunteers of the National Charity League, SFV Chapter every week.
We are so grateful for our volunteers, long time vendors and all of you who shop at our market!

ONEgeneration is proud to support Los Angeles’ newest advocacy coalition the Los Angeles Coalition for Aging (LACA)
LACA brings together local leaders from across the aging community—grassroots organizations and agencies dedicated to serving older adults throughout Los Angeles County. At a time when both our most vulnerable communities and the nonprofits that support them need stronger voice, visibility, and representation, this coalition marks an important step forward.
Together, we are embarking on a new journey to establish a standalone advocacy entity focused on tackling some of our community’s most pressing aging-related issues—while advancing more age-friendly communities through collaboration, shared leadership, and collective action.
Grateful for the passion, expertise, and commitment in the room, and energized for what’s ahead. This is just the beginning. Thank you The SCAN Foundation and Archstone Foundation for giving us this opportunity. Below is a photo of our amazing steering committee, looking forward to our continued work together!
| | Senior Center Volunteer of the Month | | | Lydia joined the ONEgeneration Senior Enrichment Center following the re-opening after the pandemic. She moved here from Maryland to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Before retiring, she was a nursing assistant and helped with administrative work. She is enjoying her time now with her grandchildren and volunteering. We are so grateful to have her help with the lunch program several days a week. Thank you to all of the dedicated kitchen and nutrition volunteers who help at all of the ONEgeneration lunch sites serving those in need of a hot meal in a social setting. | | January - Passport to Dance - at OSEC | | | |
Thank you to all of the amazing dancers and performers that shared their cultures with the ONEgeneration Senior Enrichment Center audience on Friday 01/30. Colorful costumes, traditional music and a brief history of the performances were shared. ONEgeneration was grateful to host this event and highlight all of the talented older adults of many heritages in the community.
This event was also made special by the attendance and support of 8th grade volunteers from the Mirman School. A dozen of these students joined our seniors and had an opportunity to talk with them during lunch. And then supported the dance event by decorating and helping with refreshments.
We're looking forward to the next one already!
| | Thank you to L.A. City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto, L.A. City Clerk, Councilmember John Lee, the Los Angeles Department of Aging, and the LAPD West Valley Division for providing an educational Senior Services Presentation at ONEgeneration's Wilkinson Senior Center on Friday, January 30th. ONEgeneration was honored to host this important event and would like to also thank our 100+ members who turned out to learn about the community resources available in Los Angles for older adults. | | Childcare - Intergenerational Daycare | | | |
During the month of January, the children and their older adults "neighbors" were busy building connections as they celebrated National Bird Day, honored Martin Luther King Jr., and explored both new and familiar objects together.
For National Bird Day, the children and older adults worked together to create bird feeders, which are now displayed on our shared patio. In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr., they created a collage and a painting titled “Love Comes in Different Colors.”
Throughout the month, participants also made friendship bracelets, experimented with different art designs using stencils, and built towers and castles using LEGO blocks.

Are your heating and cooling bills higher than you’d like?
If your home feels too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter, it may be time to think about a new heating and cooling system.
ONEgeneration can help you apply for rebates that can lower the cost and help you save money.
What is a heat pump?
A heat pump is an all-in-one system that keeps your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Instead of making heat, it moves heat — which uses less energy and can lower your utility bills.
Good news!
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is offering rebates of $2,500 per ton for new heat pump heating and cooling systems. ONEgeneration can help you understand the program and apply.
For more information contact Juana Torres at jtorres@onegeneration.org or call 818-708-6603.

| | ONEgeneration's Grandparents As Parents Program | | | | | |
ONEgeneration’s Grandparents As Parents (GAP) program has launched an initiative focused on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) supported by a grant from Cedars-Sinai. This program provides screenings, resources, and tools to support caregivers and children impacted by ACEs. As part of this effort, GAP publishes a monthly newsletter for caregivers and individuals who have experienced ACEs themselves or are raising children affected by them. This newsletter includes valuable information relevant to many and is shared here for the benefit of all.

The Elderly Couple
a poem by Norman Molesko
My Behold. He’s doing the old man’s walk.
She’s doing the old woman’s walk.
That’s what their neighbors are thinking.
They are old. They shuffle along nowadays,
their backs are slouched, their legs unsteady.
The use of canes could help in balancing somewhat.
The use of rollators could balance them even better,
preventing them from falling forward and broken bones.
Outside their home, they are glad not being homebound.
They feel they are still active and still part of the world.
