ONEgeneration Senior Enrichment Center in Reseda would like to introduce you to two of our amazing members. Beth Essington and Myrna Racelis have both been members of the Senior Center for over a decade.
Beth is a retired Legal Secretary who spent the last few years of her career working in bankruptcy courts. She is a long-time Reseda resident, and a fun fact is she actually watched our senior center being built. She was married for a time and has two boys. Beth has always enjoyed knitting and crocheting, in fact that is how she joined our center. Beth would donate yarn to various organizations and a friend of hers who was a ONEgeneration member invited her to the center to join the knitting class. Well 10 years later and Beth is now teaching our Knitting and Crocheting class. Beth loves the center, her class and the people who come every week have become a family.
Myrna was a School Teacher before she retired. She taught several grades ranging from Pre-K and 5th grade. She was married and helped raise her husband’s child from a previous marriage. Later in life her, they became foster parents to a young boy who they raised into adulthood. Myrna discovered ONEgeneration by happy accident. She would donate produce from her home’s fruit trees and passed by ONEgeneration to see if the members would like some of her figs. She saw what a welcoming place the center was and has been coming ever since. Last year, Myrna began teaching Hula Dancing at the center. She constantly encourages members to come express themselves regardless of experience and just have fun!

| | | | Congratulations to our Preschool Graduates | | | ONEgeneration would like to Congratulate all our Preschool Graduates, Class of 2025! It has been a wonderful experience watching you grow and interacting with our older adults throughout the years. We send you our best wishes for the next chapter in your lives. | | Intergenerational Activities | | |
During the month of June, the children and their neighbors spent time together during a variety of engaging activities. Together they explored the texture of playdough, read books, played with colorful scarves, made a painting, and created special themed crafts to celebrate the father figures in their lives. Each activity sparked sweet interactions, between the children and adults.
Our graduating class delighted their neighbors “older adults” with a special performance featuring their graduation song and dance. After the performance, both generations gathered to watch a short Facebook video that highlighted the special memories they’ve created together throughout the school year. Congratulation Class of 2025!

ACEs Skill Building Event
Recently, our Grandparents As Parents program held their first ACEs Skill Building event designed to provide practical knowledge and tools to assist caregivers who are raising children affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). The event was headlined by an enlightening presentation from the Alliance for Community Empowerment on the symptoms of trauma and how to support children. The event also provided caregivers with community resource tables to connect them to helpful resources within the community.
The GAP program would like to thank Cedars-Sinai for the generous grant which made this event possible. We would also like to thank the Alliance for Community Empowerment, MEND Poverty, Friends LA, Foster Parent College and ONEgeneration’s utility assistance program for being there to provide information to caregivers.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
ONEgeneration recognized World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15th. This year, our Care Management Team shared ways to prevent elder abuse with members of our Senior Enrichment Center and our County Older Adult Nutrition Program hosted a coloring activity during lunch at the Las Palmas Community Center in the City of San Fernando! While enjoying their meals, participants joined a coloring activity featuring awareness-themed sheets and placemats with important info. What started as hesitation turned into excitement, creativity, and great conversations. A simple, engaging way to raise awareness and build community!
An estimated 5 million, or 1 in 10, older Americans experience elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Working together across our networks, we can generate awareness and foster action to end elder abuse. To learn more, click here.

RUSHING LIFE AWAY
a poem by Norman Molesko
I want to tell about my friend, Dr. Denny.
He was a medical doctor who had retired.
I met Dr. Denny at an ONEgeneration Health Fair.
Dr. Denny lived an active, busy life, rushing life away.
He kept running all the time, a man in over-drive.
I suggested to Dr. Denny he talk to a lovely flower,
expressing some sweet words to the lovely flower,
that he become calm and relaxed with its beauty.
Dear friend of mine, please don’t wait. Do it now.
Take in all the loveliness and wonders that abound.
Then two years later, to my horror, Dr. Denny passed away.
Dr. Denny, busy Dr. Denny, wasn’t able to slow down.
