ONEgeneration News

CBS News LA & Cupid Crew

Thank you CBS LA and Kara Finnstrom for your news story highlighting the good work of the Cupid Crew and high school students who gave hand-written Valentines cards and roses to the attendees of our Wilkinson Senior Center's Valentine's Day dance. This intergenerational connection really brightens the spirits for many on this holiday, which can be difficult after losing a spouse or living with health challenges. ONEgeneration appreciates our volunteers of all ages! Click here to watch

Valentine's Day Celebrations

ONEgeneration's Wilkinson Senior Center in Northridge hosted their annual Valentine's Dance with a Big Band, refreshments and dancing! Participants were given Valentines and Roses provided by high school students as part of the Cupid Crew as featured in the CBS LA News story above! Thank you to Councilmember John Lee for stopping by and handing out valentines necklaces and even getting on the dance floor with our members! We appreciate the support of Blue Shield of California sponsoring the dance.

ONEgeneration couples and dancers came out to celebrate Valentine's Day at our Reseda Senior Enrichment Center last month! Thank you Blue Shield of California for sponsoring this event, and Max Print Photo Booth for helping us preserve the memories & make new ones. We appreciate our student volunteers for joining us on this special day. Thank you Cupid Crew high school students & Mirman School for making hand-made valentines for our older adults, and Zenith employees for providing table favors.

ONEgeneration Adult Daycare celebrated Valentine’s Day with a special party filled with love, laughter, and sweet moments. A heartfelt thank you to the volunteer team from For Goodness Cakes and AARP California for the lovely roses and delicious cupcakes that made the day extra special! We’re also so grateful to musician Steve Oliver for the wonderful performance that brought smiles to everyone’s faces. Thank you to our amazing community for helping us create such a memorable celebration!

Senior Center Member of the Month

Jill has been a dedicated member of the Wilkinson Senior Center since before ONEgeneration began providing services there. She is known for her warm personality, welcoming spirit, and, of course, her wonderful hugs. An active and enthusiastic participant, Jill is always exercising and dancing, and she even stepped up to teach a Monday exercise class when she saw there was a need. With her ever-present smile and willingness to lend a helping hand, Jill truly embodies the heart of the center.

Volunteers Of The Month

Celebrating Our Dedicated Volunteers at Las Palmas Senior Center

This incredible team of volunteers plays a vital role in supporting our congregate lunch site at the Las Palmas Senior Center in the City of San Fernando.

Michael, Lizbeth, Juan, and James:

  • Assist at the lunch desk
  • Help with kitchen preparation
  • Serve lunch
  • Clean the lunchroom and kitchen after service

Their commitment and teamwork shine through as they generously donate their time five days a week. They are one of the many outstanding volunteer groups from Tierra Del Sol, an organization we proudly partner with. Together, we create meaningful opportunities for individuals like Michael, Lizbeth, Juan, and James to positively impact the community.

In Gratitude

Thank you to the students from Chime Charter School for hosting a Bingo game recently at our Senior Enrichment Center in Reseda. The enthusiasm and compassion they brought to our older adults who participated was very much appreciated! It was a fun day for all ages, not just the winners (although they loved their prizes).

Grandparents As Parents

Game on! We had an incredible time at our Family Game Night with our amazing kinship families from the ONEgeneration Grandparents As Parents Program! From board games to lots of laughter, the room was filled with connection, teamwork, and joyful memories in the making.

This special evening was made possible through our partnership with the FCSP Program and Penny Lane Centers, whose continued support helps strengthen and uplift the families we serve.

Thank you to all the families who joined us and made the night so fun and meaningful. We love seeing our GAP community come together to play, bond, and support one another!

Are your heating and cooling bills higher than you’d like?

If your home feels too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter, it may be time to think about a new heating and cooling system.

ONEgeneration can help you apply for rebates that can lower the cost and help you save money.

What is a heat pump?

A heat pump is an all-in-one system that keeps your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Instead of making heat, it moves heat — which uses less energy and can lower your utility bills.

Good news!

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is offering rebates of $2,500 per ton for new heat pump heating and cooling systems. ONEgeneration can help you understand the program and apply.

For more information contact Juana Torres at jtorres@onegeneration.org or call 818-708-6603.

ONEgeneration's Grandparents As Parents Program

ONEgeneration’s Grandparents As Parents (GAP) program has launched an initiative focused on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) supported by a grant from Cedars-Sinai. This program provides screenings, resources, and tools to support caregivers and children impacted by ACEs. As part of this effort, GAP publishes a monthly newsletter for caregivers and individuals who have experienced ACEs themselves or are raising children affected by them. This newsletter includes valuable information relevant to many and is shared here for the benefit of all.

ONEgeneration Senior Centers'

Resident Newsletter Poet

Water is Beneficial

a poem by Norman Molesko

I have started to love water.

Drink two quarts a day.

Take some before I eat.

It keeps me hydrated.

It dissolves my meds.

A natural liquid, so neat.

I love water.

Use it to shower.

Cool the body.

Clean the feet.

Rinse the teeth.

It becomes a treat.

I love water.

It helps when tense.

Clears the head when dense.

Its benefits are immense.

Respecting what it does

makes good sense.
