CELEBRATING OLDER PEOPLE
a poem by Norman Molesko
We older people have always been around.
We older people have withstood the ups and downs.
We older people have worked to build this nation.
We older people have given to our nation.
We older people are leaving behind
a precious heritage, legacy
and nostalgia to our children,
grandchildren and future generations.
These are the gifts that we have given
from our labors, our hopes, our dreams,
our creativity, our accomplishments.
Our nation realizes the worth of older people.
Our nation celebrates older people every May
and May is called Older American Month.

The theme of day 2 of Global Intergenerational Week was "Let’s combat loneliness and isolation". Thank you to our volunteer undergraduate UCLA students who are part of the Time-Out Project providing interaction with older adults with early Alzheimer’s or those who are facing isolation. LADWP’s new Home Energy Improvement Program (HEIP) offers free energy efficient upgrades for residential customers and their families, designed to reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient.
Through the program, an assessment of a customer’s home will be performed by a trained technician to identify the most appropriate and effective improvements available. Skilled repair technicians will then make the improvements and upgrades to the home. The program is free to eligible customers. Examples include sealing windows to prevent a/c and heat leaks, changing out leaky shower heads, etc…
How to Apply
Please contact Juana Torres, ONEgeneration’s Community Environmental Project Manager for assistance in filling out the one-page application. You can reach her at jtorres@onegeneration.org or by phone: 818-708-6603.
