November 2021
Halloween at ONEgeneration
ONEgeneration's Intergenerational Daycare celebrated Halloween with special "hybrid" activity programing this year. Above are photos of our preschool children outdoors with their senior "neighbors" sharing a musical activity with lots of spooky and playful songs. Everyone loved the live guitar music and beautiful weather! Photos below were taken inside our Adult Daycare during shared Intergenerational activities via Zoom.
Thank you to the volunteers of the National Charity League, SF Valley for making Halloween cookies for over 300 seniors who receive our homebound meals! They were so excited to receive the holiday treats made by mother/daughter pairs. See below.

Holiday Upcoming Events - "Adopt A Senior" Project
The holidays are near when we start to prepare for our Annual SHARE (Sending Help And Real Essentials) Project. This "Adopt" a senior program provides donors with a profile and brief bio of a senior in need, and a few household items that they would find helpful.

If, for instance you receive a profile for retired teacher Ruth, who had hip surgery this year, she may request a list of household items such as a slippers and a nonslip bathmat. The items you bring to donate to Ruth will be delivered to her, along with a blank thank you note the they can write back to their donor.

Our seniors are so grateful for the little things like a package of toilet paper or laundry detergent, which are items hard to carry on public transportation.

If your family or office group would like to help a senior in your community, please email, preferably prior to November 12th. The SHARE Project is one of the best ways to celebrate the holidays and a time of giving!

Senior Enrichment Center - Resident Newsletter Poet
Norman Molesko is a poet, author, public speaker, former licensed psychologist, former licensed nursing home administrator, Ambassador for Seniors, and ONEgeneration's Senior Enrichment Center's Resident Newsletter Poet
a poem by Norman Molesko
Every time I feel kindness in my heart,
every time I say “Best Wishes” to someone,
I am floating through a harmony of well-being.
I see folks greeting other folks warmly,
and smiling happily to the many nearby.
I see folks considerate and friendly to others,
doing good deeds and making folks feel good.
I breathe in kindness from the air,
well-being from a world permeating care.
The heart-warming qualities that abound
makes me know that kindness is around.
Why don’t you do a kind deed for someone,
and see how it feels, right after doing the deed?

Spotlight: Underwood Farms  Since 1867, Underwood Farm has been located locally in southern California.  For many years this local grower has been a stable of the Encino Farmers Market. Drop by and notice the delicious array of fresh fruit, vegetables, and more that they offer.  Make sure to try a bottle of their famously delicious sriracha sauce with jalapeno, to spice up any dish. In fact, they are the biggest jalapeno grower in the entirety of the United States! Along with being famous for the peppers that now remain one of their primary crops, Underwood Family Farms are also famous for their corn and for their sweet yellow watermelon.

Broccolini is currently in season and delectable as well, a great addition to any meal. There is plenty to see, smell, and many things to find at the Underwood Family Farms booth; buying from them contributes to their sustainable farms and the history that they have made for themselves over the years of growing and selling crops.

Thank you for shopping at the Encino Farmers Market, supporting local farmers and small businesses, and helping the programs of ONEgeneration.

Ways to Support ONEgeneration
While City and State funding for ONEgeneration Programs is minimal, the needs we strive to meet are increasing. Help us support seniors in our communities! We depend on community member donations to keep our programs running. We thank you for your generosity!
Your donation supports:

  • $5 Senior Center Classes
  • $10 Weekend Homebound Meals
  • $20 In-home services for frail seniors
  • $50 Care-giving Support Services
  • $100 Grab Bar Installation
  • $300 Month of homebound meals for a senior couple
Did you know that you can deduct charitable donations made in 2020 up to $300 if you take the standard deduction? The CARES Act gave individual taxpayers who take the standard deduction, the ability to also take a deduction if they made a donation to a qualifying nonprofit. This amount goes up to $600 for married couples filing jointly for donations made in 2021. This is a temporary incentive to encourage contributions to nonprofits hit hard during the pandemic.

To learn more, click on this link to an AARP article which explains the Care Act provision.
