During these fun activities, both generations had the opportunity to further bond as they shared smiles, worked together, prepared and enjoyed snacks, and watched exciting magic tricks and science experiments. They also celebrated Rosh Hashanah by listening to a story and eating apples with honey. Lastly they celebrated Hispanic Independence Day by creating a Latin American flag collage, playing lotería, and enjoying a piñata. It was a fun month filled with celebrations, connection, and culture. | | |
Last month, in honor of Kinship Care Month, ONEgeneration's Grandparents As Parents Program highlighted the stories of three of our families.
We celebrated Angela, who has been a cherished part of the GAP family for many years. As a devoted grandmother, Angela stepped up to raise her grandson and has been there with love and support through every milestone. Thank you, Angela, for the love, strength, and dedication you give to your family.
We also celebrated Gloria, a remarkable great-grandmother who has opened her heart and home to raise four great-grandchildren. Through all the joys and challenges of raising a family, Gloria continues to provide the love, stability, and care her great-grandchildren need to grow and thrive. Thank you, Gloria, for the incredible commitment you have made to your family and for showing us just how powerful a great-grandmother’s love can be.
And lastly, we celebrated Martha and her husband, Andres, who have lovingly stepped in to raise their three grandchildren. Martha has been part of the GAP family since 2018, finding friendship, support, and a community of fellow caregivers who have shared in both the joys and challenges of raising grandchildren. Thank you, Martha and Andres, for the love and commitment you give to your family and for being such a special part of the GAP community.
We were so grateful to celebrate the stories of our highlighted GAP families during Kinship Care Month 2026!

Linda is originally from Minnesota and moved to California from Las Vegas 11 years ago. She attended college and earned an associate degree before dedicating much of her life to being a homemaker and raising her daughter. Today, Linda enjoys spending time with family and values meaningful connections with others.
An avid reader and writer, Linda loves biographies, nonfiction, and history books, and she enjoys writing poetry and short stories. She has also recently started practicing Tai Chi. Her love of creativity and storytelling made the comedy writing class at ONEgeneration especially memorable, sharing, “I love to write. It was so much fun.”
Linda first came to ONEgeneration to socialize and volunteer because she enjoys helping others and being involved in her community. She especially appreciates the people at the center and describes the volunteers, interns, and staff as “so supportive and so helpful.” Among her favorite activities are BINGO, chair exercise, and yoga classes.
Linda is deeply grateful for the kindness and support she has found through ONEgeneration and shares this heartfelt message: “Care about each other. Don’t be afraid to offer a helping hand. Be supportive. Make them feel like they are someone special, because they are.

Introducing a New Early-Stage Alzheimer's
Social Engagement & Respite Program
| |
ONEgeneration is proud to announce the launch of an innovative new program designed specifically for individuals experiencing early-stage memory loss and those newly diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia. Made possible through a grant from the Alzheimer's Association Center for Dementia Respite Innovation (CDRI), this specialized pilot program addresses a critical gap in dementia care by providing meaningful support during the earliest stages of the journey.
Hosted within our Adult Daycare Center in a dedicated, welcoming space, the program is designed to help participants maintain social connections, purpose, independence, and quality of life. Grounded in memory café principles, the program offers a stigma-free environment where individuals can connect with peers, engage in enriching activities, and continue pursuing meaningful experiences.
Participants will enjoy enhanced therapeutic programming, including Art Therapy, Music and Movement, technology-based activities, engaging discussion groups, and ONEgeneration's signature intergenerational experiences that foster connection across generations.
If you or a loved one has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia and are looking for a supportive, engaging community, we invite you to learn more.
For information or to enroll, please contact ONEgeneration Adult Daycare at (818) 708-6625 or email adultdaycare@onegeneration.org. We look forward to welcoming you to this exciting new program!
This project is supported by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award totaling $13,261,685 with 75 percent funded by ACL/HHS and $3,285,728 with 25 percent funded by non-government source(s). Thank you to Los Angeles County Department of Public Health for including ONEgeneration’s Resiliency Building Workshop in its community programming, and to Crescenta Valley Community Regional Park for hosting us. With support from UniHealth Foundation, participants explored trauma and stress reactions and practiced strategies for coping, emotional regulation, and recovery following the Los Angeles wildfires.
| | | | ONEgeneration’s RISE Team attended the Rise Collaborative Academy (conference) last month. The RISE Academy provided an in-depth exploration of the RISE model, of its core principles, and person-led approaches to supporting older adults experiencing abuse, neglect, or self-neglect. The conference was attended by other RISE grantees from across the country, offering practical application of RISE modalities while strengthening skills for promoting client empowerment, safety, connection, and meaningful change. | | |
We’re proud to see ONEgeneration President & CEO Jenna Hauss join an inspiring group of community leaders as a speaker on the panel “Advancing Community Impact Through Corporate Partnerships” at the Southern California Grantmakers (SCG) Annual Conference - Renewing Our Purpose in September.

Are your heating and cooling bills higher than you’d like?
TECH Clean California has released new rebates for heat pump heating and A/C systems. If you live in the following communities you can apply for the rebates this year: Porter Ranch, Granada Hills, Northridge, Chatsworth, North Hills, Canoga Park, Reseda, Winnetka, West Hills, Van Nuys, and Lake Balboa.
ONEgeneration can help you understand this program and apply for these rebates. Call or email our Environmental Projects Manager, Juana Torres: 818-708-6603/ jtorres@onegeneration.org
What is a heat pump?
A heat pump is an all-in-one system that keeps your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Instead of making heat, it moves heat — which uses less energy and can lower your utility bills.
Good news! (see flyer below)
| | |
Beat the heat! LADWP is offering up to $2500 (per ton) on Heat Pump HVAC systems. They are also offering rebates of up to $275 on new energy-efficient portable, window, and wall A/C units. ONEgeneration can help you apply. Please email or call Environmental Projects Manager, Juana Torres at jtorres@onegeneration.org or at 818-708-6603.
