National Senior Center Month, celebrated each September, is an opportunity to promote a positive image of aging, highlight how your center improves the lives of local older adults, and strengthen your visibility among potential new participants, community partners, and decision-makers. Intergeneration Month champions the power of cross-age connections every September. This month encourages individuals, families, and communities to engage in activities that foster mutual respect and learning between different age groups. Discover ways to connect, share stories, and build stronger bonds across generations. Check out some of our Intergenerational Programs like Sages & Seekers or Grandparents As Parents.
Also, September is National Kinship Care Month!
This month, ONEgeneration and our Grandparents As Parents (GAP) Program are proud to celebrate the incredible families who step up when children cannot remain with their parents.
What is kinship care? Kinship families are formed when grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, other relatives—or even close family friends—step in to raise a child. Across the United States, approximately 2.5 million children are growing up in kinship families.
At Grandparents As Parents (GAP), we know there is no single way a kinship family looks. What these families share is an extraordinary commitment to keeping children safe, loved, connected and with family. Throughout September, we'll be celebrating our GAP families, sharing their stories, highlighting the strengths of kinship care, and helping our community better understand the unique challenges kin caregivers face.
To all of the grandparents, relatives and extended family members who stepped up when a child needed you: this month, we celebrate YOU.

This summer, the teens of ONEgeneration’s Grandparents As Parents – GAP Program headed to the beautiful Eastern Sierra for our annual Mono Lake Teen Camp! Over five unforgettable days, they explored the natural wonders of the region, learned about Mono Lake and its vital connection to Los Angeles' water supply, and enjoyed hiking, games, laughter, and new friendships. Most importantly, they experienced what it means to be part of a supportive community and created memories that will last a lifetime.
A heartfelt thank you to the Mono Lake Committee for providing an exceptional outdoor education program, Santiago Escruceria for sharing his knowledge and inspiring our youth, and a very special thank you to our dedicated volunteer, Manuela Martinez. Her commitment and generosity make this trip possible year after year. At GAP, we are grateful to provide our caregivers with a well-deserved break while giving the children in our program opportunities to explore, learn, grow, and simply enjoy being kids.

Alain RBibo first heard about ONEgeneration Senior Enrichment Center about a year ago through a neighbor who mentioned it as a place to play ping pong. Alain had played as a child and was intrigued by the opportunity to rediscover the game. Alain has since become an integral member of the center. In addition to his active involvement with the center’s ping pong sessions, he also enjoys playing Mah Jongg, cards, board games, and socializing with the other members.
Alain grew up in London and moved to sunny Los Angeles in 1989 for a job opportunity that was “too good to pass up.” Through this opportunity, he began his career in California managing a large retail company consisting of 500 stores. From there, he became interested in health, fitness, and beauty, which led him to open up his own health club in Los Angeles, followed later by a health spa. Although he has since closed these businesses, he still offers concierge services to former clients.
Above all, Alain’s true passion is singing and songwriting. He has been singing and writing music since the age of 14 and currently has a small recording studio at his house. He enjoys playing the keyboard, which he can translate into arrangements for any instrument. Alain has even produced songs for the dance and hula classes at OSEC! In addition to his involvement at the center and producing music, Alain is an avid pickleball player and loves being active. Alain encourages everyone to always be true to themselves.
OSEC hosts Table Tennis on Mondays from 9:45-11:10am, Wednesdays from 1:00-4:30pm, and Fridays from 2:30-4:30pm for a $2 participation fee.

ONEgeneration's Senior Enrichment Center's 2nd Annual Art Show, “A Community of Artists,” welcomed members, family, and friends to experience the incredible artwork created by our talented ONEgeneration artists throughout the year. The room was buzzing with conversation, music, and laughter as guests explored a vibrant collection of artwork filled with color, texture, and imagination. From stunning paintings to unique needlework pieces, each creation reflected the passion, creativity, and personal stories of our artists.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the artistic talents within our ONEgeneration community. We are proud of our artists and grateful for the support that helps creativity flourish at every age.

Introducing a New Early-Stage Alzheimer's
Social Engagement & Respite Program

ONEgeneration is proud to announce the launch of an innovative new program designed specifically for individuals experiencing early-stage memory loss and those newly diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia. Made possible through a grant from the Alzheimer's Association Center for Dementia Respite Innovation (CDRI), this specialized pilot program addresses a critical gap in dementia care by providing meaningful support during the earliest stages of the journey.
Hosted within our Adult Daycare Center in a dedicated, welcoming space, the program is designed to help participants maintain social connections, purpose, independence, and quality of life. Grounded in memory café principles, the program offers a stigma-free environment where individuals can connect with peers, engage in enriching activities, and continue pursuing meaningful experiences.
Participants will enjoy enhanced therapeutic programming, including Art Therapy, Music and Movement, technology-based activities, engaging discussion groups, and ONEgeneration's signature intergenerational experiences that foster connection across generations.
If you or a loved one has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia and are looking for a supportive, engaging community, we invite you to learn more.

Oxnard Senior Services
ONEgeneration's MSSP Care Management Team represented our services at the Oxnard End of Summer BBQ and Wellness Fair last month. Attendees learned about services available to older adults at home, including monthly calls, home visits from our care managers and Register Nurse, as well as emergency response system and transportation. Thank you, Oxnard Senior Services, for this wonderful outreach opportunity to let older adults know that ONEgeneration is now in the Oxnard area providing Care Management Services.

The ONEgeneration Encino Farmers Market is an excellent way for everyone in the family to spend time together on a Sunday. Open year-round, over 30 farmers from all over Central and Southern California, over 25 food vendors, and over 10 crafters participate, with donations and a portion of the proceeds each week going towards supporting ONEgeneration’s community programs and services. The market is open every Sunday from 8am to 1 pm. Plenty of free parking at 17400 Victory Blvd. (between White Oak and Balboa).
ONEgeneration's Community Partner, LA Compost will be at the Market on Sunday, September 20th from 8 AM - 1 PM for a quarterly compost distribution. The team will be sharing free small bags of nutrient-rich finished compost, available while supplies last. This compost is perfect for: Nourishing houseplants, making compost tea to water your plants or gifting to plant lovers.
