MAJOR INFRASTRUCTURE MEASURE MAKING WAY THROUGH CONGRESS

Money for roads, bridges and rail, including the Gateway Program.  Funding for water and broadband.  It's all in the bipartisan Senate approved infrastructure bill heading to the House of Representatives.  US DOT Secretary Buttigieg visited New Jersey this week to tout the need for the $1 trillion plan.  

TTF ROLLS OUT $161M FOR ROAD UPGRADES
 
NJDOT is doling out new grants for all 21 counties to use on bridge and road upgrades. The monies come from the Transportation Trust Fund.

The following counties are getting the largest grants: Bergen, $13.7 million; Ocean County, $12.9 million; Middlesex County, $11.2 million; Monmouth and Burlington Counties, just over $10 million each.
SOUTH JERSEY PORTS DOUBLE CARGO TONNAGE IN BOUNCE BACK

South Jersey Ports have rebounded to more than double their cargo levels versus 2020. They shipped more than 189,715 s/tons in June; a near 83% increase.
South Jersey Ports is a national leader in bulk and breakbulk cargoes, shipping and receiving to and from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe.  Their four international seaport facilities in South Jersey handle more than four million tons of bulk, breakbulk and containerized cargoes annually.
LAST MOTBY BUILDINGS IMPLODED TO MAKE WAY FOR MAJOR UPS HUB

Construction of a major UPS hub and warehouse operation is moving forward following the implosion of the last remaining structures of the former Marine Ocean Terminal.  The new buildings will measure more than 1.5M square feet.

PSEG TO DIVEST ITSELF OF ALL FOSSIL FUEL FIRE PLANTS

PSEG is selling its stake in 13 fossil fuel generating plants.  The generating plants are in New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland and New York and will be sold to ArcLight Technologies. PSEG is also a stakeholder in Ocean Wind I off the New Jersey Coast with partner, ├śrsted.
SUCCESSOR SOLAR PROGRAM APPROVED BY BPU 


The BPU has approved a new solar incentive program that will take effect on August 28th.  It will replace the SREC program and will help the state meet its goal of solar installations providing 10% of our energy by 2026.

Nicknamed "SuSI", it will pave the way for up to 3,750 megawatts (MW) of new solar generation by that year, doubling the state's current solar capacity.

ATLANTIC SHORES PROVIDES CONSTRUCTION PLANS

Alliance member Atlantic Shores recently held virtual open houses to help residents become better acquainted with the company. Atlantic Shores recently was awarded the largest portion of Phase II of NJ Offshore Wind by the Board of Public Utilities.

AMAZON WAREHOUSE PROVIDES OPPORTUNITY 
 
The Port Authority and Amazon announced plans for Amazon to build a 250,000 square foot regional air cargo hub on the property of Newark International Airport. The facility is expected to open in early 2023 and supply nearly 1000 new local jobs, boosting total airport employment over 5%.
PEOPLE ON THE MOVE AT SOUTH JERSEY INDUSTRIES
  • Melissa Orsen will become the new President of South Jersey Industries-Utilities. It is the first time a female leader will oversee both South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas. She succeeds Dave Robbins.
  • Brent Schomber will succeed Orsen as president and chief operations officer of South Jersey Gas Company.
  • Leonard Brinson Jr., chief information officer, SJI, and Eric Stein, general counsel, SJI, have both been promoted to senior vice presidents and will continue to drive strategy as members of the SJI leadership team.
