We are thrilled to announce a brand new course to both OOMPH and Berkeley Public Health starting in Fall 2022:
PHW251B - Data Visualization for Public Health
The course will be taught by Dr. Adrienne Mocello, an Epidemiologist and Data Manager at UCSF.
-
Term: Fall Full Term
-
Units: 2 or 3 units
-
Description: In this 2-unit course we will discuss the theory behind effective graphical design, how to apply this theory to communicating health data to different audiences, and how to produce a variety of graphical types using primarily the ggplot command in the statistical analysis environment R. There are two lectures per week accompanied by readings. Generally, the course content and assignments alternate weekly between theory and R programming. You may opt to take the course for an additional 3rd unit in which you will apply the lessons throughout the course to an analysis of your own data, culminating in a final academic or professional product.

The class number for enrollment will be added to the 2022 Fall Full Term grid in the Program Calendar as soon as the course receives campus approval, likely by the end of April.
