OP welcomes Dr. Clifford (Kip) Cranna to our Board of Directors. Currently Dramaturg Emeritus at San Francisco Opera, he served on the staff there for over forty years, thirty as Director of Music Administration. Cranna holds a Ph.D. in musicology from Stanford University and teaches opera appreciation at several Bay Area universities including, U.C. Berkeley and San Francisco State.
Throughout his well-established career, he coordinated the commissioning and co-commissioning of more than 20 new operas. Before joining OP's board of directors, he served for over a decade on the Advisory Council. "Opera Parallèle is at the forefront of excellence in promoting opera of our own time, and am I proud and pleased to be associated with this fine company," Cranna shares.
He notes the pandemic's impact the past year has abruptly forced the opera industry to reinvent itself at a faster pace than expected. "Opera Parallèle has been at the vanguard of that reinvention. Thanks to innovative ideas like those of OP's creative team, opera – in particular, contemporary opera – can emerge from the crises with a new energy and focus, poised for a bright future."
Post pandemic, Cranna looks forward to chatting with friends at intermission of a great OP performance preceded by a wonderful dinner at the Hayes St. Grill.
