NAVIGATING THE DIVINE OFFICE
|
Fr. Augustine Hilander O.P.
"The Divine Office can seem divine sometimes, but most times it can seem like a duty. There is one way that the office can be less burdensome and more simple. And I'm not referring to iBreviary. I'm talking about the use of the ribbons."

Mrs. Denise Harvey O.P.
"The joy of those disciples is the same joy that Jesus wants for us. The joy of uniting with our leaders to proclaim that Christ is risen. The joy of proclaiming to Catholics (which is especially needed) that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. The joy and freeing power of Confession. The most effective way to do this is to extol the virtues of our Church and Her leaders. To continually speak about our gratitude for the Sacraments. To encourage vocations to the priesthood. To focus on the Good News."

SAINT FOCUS: ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA
|
|
St. Catherine (1347-1380) is a saint for our times, especially as we navigate a modern world dotted with illness, political discord, and spiritual poverty - the same kind of challenges she faced in her time.
She was born in the midst of plague, endured great division in the Church and across Europe, and was opposed by many surrounding her.
Despite these and many other difficulties, St. Catherine remained fervently focused on her spiritual mission - leading souls to Christ. She gradually gained a following of both religious and lay persons, and became a trusted papal consultant as her public influence gained authority.
St. Catherine knew great suffering, but also knew great joy and restoration in Christ, especially in the Holy Eucharist.
In our current trials, St. Catherine stands as a companion on our most difficult journeys, an example of holiness and steadfast faith in the face of sickness, opposition, and uncertainty.
St. Catherine of Siena, ora pro nobis!
With St. Catherine, we remain,
Sincerely in Christ and St. Dominic,
Western Dominican Friars

OF PILLARS AND SPORES: THE GENIUS OF WOMAN
|
"Pillars and spores are images used by Edith Stein (1891-1942) in one of her essays on women. The woman who becomes or is becoming what she is meant to be, Stein explains, is like a pillar to which many fasten themselves, thereby attaining a firm footing. Further, women who are on their way to becoming whole persons can, in turn, help others to realize their personal fulfillment. In this way, Stein argues, women are like healthy, energetic spores."

JESUS, OUR COMPANION
AND OUR HOPE
|
"Christ is Risen! - Truly, He is Risen! This Paschal greeting that we are so accustomed to hearing on Easter morning represents the overwhelming joy and excitement we have longed for since the beginning of our Lenten Journey."

"[...]Here you see Mary untying the knots with her hands and motherly care—the knots of our lives that we could never untie alone. At the same time, she crushes the serpent, the symbol of the devil and fall of humanity. Like a pillar of obedience and faith she stands straight toward heaven, restoring order, yet always with her gaze lowered to the earth, the valley of tears. Her gentle eyes meet ours."

VIDEO: PROVIDENCE AND VOCATION IN 'FATHER STU'
|
"Friends, Mark Wahlberg’s new film "Father Stu" is one of the most theologically interesting films to come out in a long time. It considers some of the thorniest and most puzzling themes in the sacred science, including the nature of vocation, the purpose of suffering in the divine plan, the role of supernatural agency, the dynamics of redemption, and perhaps most thoroughly, the mystery of God’s providence."

GOD'S GRACE AND HIS FIERY FRIAR
|
"Domingo Báñez (1528-1604) was a feisty Basque Dominican Friar and a leading theologian of his era. He was part of the third generation of scholasticism’s Silver Age, centered around the University of Salamanca in Spain where he occupied the prestigious first chair of theology for nineteen years. His fierce intellect was often embroiled in theological controversy in an age when doctrine was a matter of life and death."

A BRIEF DEFENSE OF PRIESTLY CELIBACY
|
"Some people maintain that the celibate priesthood is directly responsible for the sexual-abuse crisis in the Catholic Church. What’s more, they argue that celibacy is a frustrated and unnatural abstention from conjugal life, which facilitates—rather than mitigates—moral depravity among its practitioners."
