Central High staff and a student representative provided an update on their implementation of College & Career Academies and Pathways. The team shared an overview of each of their pathways and student opportunities.
Last year, Central implemented Freshman Academy for all students. The Freshman Academy team names represent members of the Central High School Hall of Fame. Freshman Academy sets students up for success as they transition from middle school to high school and beyond. It helps students flourish academically and as a whole-child. During students' freshman year, they select their pathway. Pathways are a sequence of four classes between sophomore and senior years that align with a student's goals for life after graduation. Central has expanded access with pathways in STEM, Leadership and Global Studies and Global Arts. Students can choose from one of the 16 pathways.
Central held a Pathway Showcase Night where students/families could learn more about each pathway and potential opportunities after high school. Industry partners brought 3-D models of the brain, architecture plans and more to give students hands-on experience. Central staff is working on expanding students' interaction with future pathways during the 2023-24 school year.
Working with community partners has been an essential step for Central. Industry leaders collaborate with staff to develop lessons for Freshman Academy, plan field trips and host mock interviews.
