#OPSProud Spotlight - Columbian Elementary Named Blue Ribbon School
The Board of Education Spotlight last night was on Columbian Elementary. School and district leaders were in Washington, D.C. last week to receive recognition as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program celebrates academic excellence across the country. Only six schools in Nebraska earned the recognition this year.

Board of Education Action Items
Annual Audit Reports of the Omaha Public Schools, Educational Service Unit No. 19 and KIOS-FM Radio Station
A representative from Seim Johnson L.L.P. presented for review and acceptance the 2018-2019 Annual Audit Reports of the Omaha Public School District, Educational Service Unit No. 19, and KIOS-FM Radio Station. The Board approved these audits.

First Reading of Policies: 1120, 2500, 4430, 5305, 5402
Chief of Staff Matt Ray shared an update on the first reading of policies with recommended changes from the Board of Education Policy Committee. The policies will go before the Board for a second reading in the future.

First Reading: Series 1000 Policies (Community Relations)
As part of the five year policy review cycle, Central Office Staff and the Board of Education Policy Committee have reviewed the 1000 Series (Community Relations) Policies.

Members of the Board did ask for further discussion on Policy 1060: Advertising and Promotion before it is approved. It will go back to the Policy Committee for further discussion. All other policies were approved.
Board of Education Information Items
Series 2019-20 General Obligation Bond Update
Piper Jaffray provided an update on the general bond obligations and timeline for release of funds in the future.

The tentative timeline is to have the Board sign a resolution in December for a sale of the bonds in January. This would allow for money to be on hand in February to be used for bond projects.

Policy Updates- 5001, 6121, 6270
Chief of Staff Matt Ray shared an update on policies 5001, 6121 and 6270 that the Policy Committee recommended changes to. Policy 5001 and 6270 will go before the Board of Education for a first reading tentatively on Dec. 2. Members of the Board of Education asked for further revisions to Policy 6121 before it was approved.

CHI Health and Omaha Public Schools partner to honor teachers across the OPS district
CHI Health wants nominations of Omaha Public Schools teachers changing the lives of students. Each month, they’ll surprise a Top Teacher nominee with a treat basket for the teacher's lounge and a personal gift card. CHI will draw winners on the last Friday of the month. CHI Health will select winners from three different grade levels across the district.

Next OPS Board of Education Meeting
The next regularly scheduled Board Meeting will take place on Dec. 2. It is tentatively scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
