At a Special Meeting Tuesday evening, the Board of Education interviewed each of the four finalists in its Superintendent Search. The Board announced those finalists last week and communicated directly with all staff, families and high school students. Board Members thanked each of the finalists for their interest in Omaha Public Schools, and everyone who attended the meet-and-greet open house and watched the interviews in-person or online.
After the interviews, the Board voted to make a conditional offer to Mr. Matthew Ray.
Matthew Ray received his Ed.S. from the University of Nebraska Kearney, and MS in Educational Administration, BS in Elementary Education and BS in Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Mr. Ray is currently serving as Interim Superintendent of the Omaha Public Schools. Previous positions include Deputy Superintendent/Chief of Staff, Interim Chief of Accountability, School Improvement and Innovation, Interim Chief Academic Officer, Secretary to the Board of Education and Executive Director of Student and Community Services for the Omaha Public Schools.
In a letter to staff, families and high school students, Board President Spencer Head and Vice President Ricky Smith said the Board looks forward to working with Mr. Ray, preparing all students for success in college, career and life. A detailed contract will come back to the Board for approval in the near future.
The Board said staff, student, family and community participation has been an essential part of the search. Thousands of staff, family, student and community voices guided this process.
Since the beginning of its search, the Board shared how seriously members take this responsibility and how proud they are to serve in Nebraska’s largest school district.
