Trevis Sallis, transportation executive director, updated the Board on transportation services bid 024-027. Our district's current transportation contract expires at the end of summer 2024.
For the last year, transportation staff have been researching the vendor market, which has changed since the previous contract was implemented. The focus was on safe and reliable transportation.
Transportation staff reviewed the current contract and decided what elements should be adjusted or removed. From there, staff developed a bid focused on safe and reliable transportation with technology for parent communication, good customer service and maintaining accountability.
Transportation developed an evaluation process for the three bids submitted. The evaluation team consisted of transportation services, Board of Education members, an assistant principal, and Student and Community Services staff. The team compared the overall cost of driver pay, the base rate and the cost of increasing/decreasing the number of buses. Staff also examined and verified references.
Additional factors that were considered for the bid process included:
- Training and safety program
- Alternative fuel plan
- Customer service model
- Current technology
After reviewing and evaluating the bids, the team recommended Zum Services, Inc. They stood out to the team because of their student-centered transportation model. Their mission is to modernize transportation and support family communication. They are committed to alternative fuel. They also provide driver support and are customer and community-focused.
