Staff modeled the 2025-26 and 2026-27 calendars after the 2024-25 calendar and included input from surveys and listening sessions with families, staff groups and our before and after school providers. Staff Presentation on Secondary English Language Arts, Secondary Reading Intervention, and Secondary English Learner Materials and Resources for Use Beginning with the 2024-25 School Year

Curriculum and Instruction Support (CIS) staff shared the process they undertook to review new secondary English language arts, reading intervention and English learner textbooks and materials. Our district issued a request for proposal for materials and selected initial materials. Staff then led teacher reviews, community reviews and field testing.

CIS staff took the analysis of English language arts standards, standards alignment, teacher reviews, field testing, bias reviews, and community reviews into account as part of the findings and recommendations. CIS staff also looked at four key instructional shifts for English language arts. They are:

  1. Science of reading/foundations of reading
  2. Staircase of complexity
  3. Balancing literacy and informational texts
  4. Explicit writing instruction

Staff summarized the findings and recommendations for the Board. They will bring the recommendation back to the Board for final approval.
