Celebrating State Swimming Champion

The #OPSProud Spotlight recognized Carter Hiley of Central High for winning the 200 individual medley at the 2026 NSAA State Swimming & Diving Championships.

Consent Agenda Items

Consent agenda items are packaged into one agenda item. They are often routine and garner very little discussion.

Items included:

• Approval to Award Bid No. 26-030 and Contract to Kingery Construction Company for the OPS Transportation South Interior Office Improvements Project, Summer 2026 ($2,081,200.00)
• Approval to Award Bid No. 26-032 to CORREA Logistics, LLC. for Eight (8) Cargo Vans ($481,128.48)
• Approval to Exercise the Second and Final Option Year to Extend Transportation Services with Chief Bus Service, Inc. for Augmented Student Transportation (Budgeted $1,750,000.00)
• Approval to Exercise the Second and Final Option Year of the Contract with North End Teleservices, for Student Transportation Support Call Center (Budgeted $1,500,000.00)
• Approval of Funding Agreement with the Omaha Public Schools Foundation for the Educare of Omaha at Indian Hill Playground Renovation 
• Approval of the Construction Agreement with Jensen Gardens Inc. for Educare of Omaha at Indian Hill Playground (Renovation Funded through Omaha School Foundation)
• Approval of the Master Services Agreement Between the Educational Service Unit Coordinating Council and Educational Service Unit No. 19 for the 2026-2027 School Year
• Approval of Proposed Staffing Adjustments

Amber Wicherski Appointed Executive Director of Special Education

The Board of Education approved Amber Wicherski as the next Executive Director of Special Education.

Amber has served in a variety of roles throughout Omaha Public Schools for more than 21 years.

She began her career as an early childhood special education (ECSE) teacher at Columbian Elementary.

She also served as ECSE lead teacher and a special education supervisor and coordinator.

Please join us in congratulating Ms. Wicherski on her new role.

Jeffery Wagner, Ed.D., Appointed Executive Director of Facilities

The Board of Education approved Jeffrey Wagner, Ed.D., as the next Executive Director of Facilities. Dr. Wagner has served in education throughout the metro for more than 35 years.

He joins Omaha Public Schools with experience as a principal, assistant principal, dean of students and secondary teacher.

Join us in congratulating Dr. Wagner on his appointment.

Approval of the Report of the Legislative Committee Including Recommended Legislative Positions

The Legislative Committee updated the Board regarding the status of bills before the Nebraska Legislature.

The committee recommends positions on bills based on their potential impact on Omaha Public Schools. The recommended positions mirrored previously-approved ones, so no Board action was needed.

The Legislative Committee will continue to monitor bills and review any adjustments. As adjustments to bills are made, the Omaha Public Schools position may also change.

Next Omaha Public Schools Board of Education Meeting

The next Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 20. It is tentatively scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
