Dr. Logan celebrated the Class of 2020 and recognized each high school's senior class president at the board meeting. The leadership each senior class president has demonstrated during this unprecedented time has been phenomenal.

Consent Agenda Items
Consent agenda items are packaged into one agenda item. They are often routine and garner very little discussion.

Board of Education Action Items
Superintendent's Contract (July 2020-June 2023)
The Board approved an extension to Dr. Logan's contract. The Superintendent declined a salary increase in the agreement.

Contract Changes:
  • The Superintendent proposed the transportation allowance be reduced by half in the first year, due to more limited in-district travel amid current health conditions.
  • The Superintendent may request that a set amount of unused leave time may be converted for payment. The contract allows for up to 20 days in the first year and 10 days in subsequent years.



Policy 2100 - The Superintendent of Schools

The Board of Education considered changes to policy 2100.

The proposed changes would allow the Superintendent, in a declaration of emergency, to make decisions regarding the school district in consultation with Board Officers.

The Board did not pass the proposed changes.

Approval of 2019 Nebraska Department of Education World Languages Standards

The Board adopted the Nebraska Department of Education World Language Standards last night.

The new Nebraska World Language standards focus on five strands: communication, cultures, connections, communities and cognition.

The new Nebraska Department of Education World Language standards enhance language usage for College and Career Readiness and align with the district's portrait of a graduate in the new strategic plan.

Lease with Deep Well for District Swing Space at Southroads Technology Park

The Board approved the lease for a swing space at the Southroads Technology Park. The swing space will temporarily host students and staff while certain schools undergo major renovation projects.

Policy 5008 - Attendance

The Policy Committee recommends approval of changes made to Policy 5008. The policy was an information only item. It will have it's first reading at a future meeting.

Important Information for OPS Staff
CHI Health and Omaha Public Schools partner to honor teachers across the district
CHI Health wants nominations of Omaha Public Schools teachers changing the lives of students. Each month, they’ll surprise a Top Teacher nominee with a treat basket for the teacher's lounge and a personal gift card. CHI will draw winners on the last Friday of the month. CHI Health will select winners from three different grade levels across the district.

Next OPS Board of Education Meeting
The next regularly scheduled Board Meeting will take place on June 1. It is tentatively scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
