Educators Rising Students Receive State Honors | |
The #OPSProud Spotlight recognized students across Omaha Public Schools who earned top state-level honors in the Educators Rising competition and will compete at nationals this summer. Of the 300 students that participated in the state competition, more than 140 were from Omaha Public Schools. | |

Approval of the Title I Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) Grant Allocation from May 16, 2023, to September 30, 2024 ($3,910,000.00) | |
Interim Chief of Accountability and School Improvement Susanne Cramer provided information to the Board on the Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) Grant. The CSI Grant assists identified schools needing additional strategic instructional support by the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE). All schools submit a continuous improvement plan and application to NDE that outlines their goals for improvement. Schools that are a part of the grant receive targeted, customized support to develop and implement their strategies. Our district will use lessons learned from Turnaround schools to support identified CSI schools. The Board approved the grant allocation of $3.9 million that runs from now through Sept. 30, 2024. Specific leadership and professional development contracts will come before the Board at future meetings. | |
Approval to Award Proposal No. P004-23 to RULER for Emotion Regulation Framework and Tools and Approval of the Attached Purchase and License Agreements to be Used in Thirty Additional Schools, Pre-K Through 12th Grade for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 School Years ($216,000.00) | |
Chief of Student and Community Services Lisa Utterback provided information on adding 30 RULER schools. Our district currently has 25 schools that have been implementing the RULER process since 2021. RULER (recognizing, understanding, labeling, expressing, and regulating) is a research-based framework to promote health and well-being by teaching emotional intelligence to staff and students. It teaches students and staff that identifying our emotions and managing them matters. RULER supports our multi-tiered system for behavior by providing strategies for addressing students' social and emotional needs. Staff support students by teaching the methods and then modeling it for them. | |
