Board of Education Action Items

Approval of the Proposed Amendment to the Plan for Expenditure of $194,556,061 Allocated to the District by the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) ESSER III Fund which was Originally Approved by the Board of Education on Sept. 9, 2021

On Sept. 9, 2021, the Board of Education approved the plan for expenditure of $194,556,061 allocated to the district by the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) III Fund.

ESSER III required that at least 20% of funds be spent on academic recovery. Our district currently projects that we will spend more than 28% on academic recovery.

With additional staff and community input, the Board of Education approved amendments to the plan on March 7, 2022, June 6, 2022, and May 1, 2023.

Our district has continued to gather input and review opportunities to reallocate a projected surplus of $31.63 million from ESSER III. The surplus comes from cost savings on other expenditures like curriculum. Chief Financial Officer Shane Rhian spoke to the Board about updated ESSER III funding allocations

Our district anticipates spending all funds by the Sept. 30, 2024 deadline. They will be sent to the NDE for approval.
