Earlier this school year, the Board of Education approved the calendars for 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years. The calendars included 189 teacher days. The current Omaha Education Association proposed two-year contract calls for 188 days. Therefore, one day needs to be removed from each calendar.
The goal with the proposal was to avoid impacting student days. Research used previous feedback from teachers to inform their decision about which days to remove.
- Teacher Recess day on April 10, 2020 - The feedback from teachers and staff has consistently highlighted the need for a break day in April. In addition, the April professional development day has seen low attendance. Therefore, for the 2019-2020 Calendar, April 10, 2020 which was previously a Professional Development Day will now be a teacher recess day.
- Teacher Recess day on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020 - This change mirrors the 2019-20 calendar for staff. Previous feedback also consistently highlighted the desire for this to be a non-teacher day.
The Board approved the changes to the calendar pending board approval of the OEA contract.
