Board of Education Information Items

School Financing Review Commission Update

Shavonna Holman, Ed.D., updated colleagues on the first meeting of the School Financing Review Commission. The Nebraska Legislature approved the creation of the commission last session. It is comprised of 18 members, including Holman as a representative of Omaha Public Schools. The commission’s responsibility is to study and provide advisory recommendations related to school funding in Nebraska. The first meeting focused largely on the commission’s organizational structure and goals. It appears the commission will meet monthly through 2025. The commission will meet again in September. Holman committed to updating the Board of Education following each meeting.

Accountability Committee Update

Holman also updated the Board of Education on the work of the Accountability Committee. At a recent meeting, members finalized the recommended goals and timeline for evaluating the Superintendent during the 2025-26 school year, which members considered as an action item later on the agenda.
