Fall 2022 Staffing Update
|
|
Earlier this summer, our district communicated with staff and families about adjustments to address our staffing needs. The plan anticipated unfilled certificated positions and adjusted schedules based on staff committed for the 2022-23 school year. The plan would ensure that each student had a classroom teacher on the first day of school.
Human Resources worked diligently over the last several weeks to recruit and hire qualified staff for open positions. In addition, some certified staff in non-classroom positions (dean, curriculum specialist or Teacher Administrative Center staff member, etc.) will transition to classroom roles for the benefit of our students. Human Resources has made significant progress in filling positions. Human Resources continues to work to fill certified and classified positions and will host two classified interview fairs in August.
"We recognize that our district is built upon the staff who make everything work. Our staff continues to work with us because they recognize the importance of an outstanding educational environment for each and every student," said Mr. Wakefield. Our district recognizes that this year will be challenging for our staff and bring increased demands.
Human Resources has also been working to increase available substitutes as part of the staffing plan. This will minimize the number of staff who lose plan time due to unavailable substitutes.
Our district has also taken a strong focus on programs to grow our own talent. Last spring, we implemented a student teacher stipend. This fall, our student teachers doubled. Our robust programs ensure we attract and retain quality staff.
"Every child will start the school year with a teacher in their classroom. Every child will have a teacher, and that is our goal. We want an outstanding educational experience for each child, regardless of where they go to school," Wakefield said.
If you know someone interested in joining Omaha Public Schools, invite and encourage them to apply at www.ops.org/careers.
