A review of Omaha Public Schools Board of Education meetings.

Sept. 17, 2024

Following each Board of Education meeting, District Communications recaps the board meeting in the Board Digest.

Budget Hearing

Presentation of the 2024-25 Property Tax Requirements for Douglas County School District 0001

Chief Financial Officer Shane Rhian presented information to the Board on the property tax request for the 2024-25 school year.

The total proposed property tax levy is $1.10793, a decrease of 10.9 cents for 2024-25.

The property tax request includes an override of the LB 243 revenue cap. LB 243 allows districts to increase their property tax ask by a predetermined growth formula that includes base growth, membership (student) growth, poverty growth and Limited English Proficiency (LEP) growth. Under that growth formula, the Omaha Public Schools budget would grow by 0.39%. Our district is proposing an increase of 4.18%.

The Board approved the 2024-25 budget at the Sept. 5 meeting.

Approval of the property tax request will come before the board at a special meeting on Friday, Sept. 20.
