The New and Important section includes the president's monthly message, fund raising items and news about recent developments that effect fishing and conservation.

President's Message

Welcome Back Hope you enjoyed your summer. Your president spent two months in North Dakota, which was much cooler. It has been fun to return to Arizona and continue working on the Chapter business. As you know, we have not been meeting for over one year. My plan is to return to regular meetings ASAP. Our September 1, 2021 meeting will be a “Virtual” presentation. Please look for more information on the email Blast. The presentation will be, “what trout are eating”, by Tim Flager. He is a recognized expert and fly tier. I look forward to working with the OPTU Chapter is coming year. Please consider attending the monthly meetings and bring a friend. The Board will meet this month to discuss activities over the next two semesters. Monthly Meeting

We have a very special guest presenting at the OPTU meeting on September 1st. World-renowned fly tyer and fly fisher Tim Flagler is going to be joining us to discuss What Trout Like to Eat & Flies to Feed Them. This presentation will include video of aquatic insects, bait fish & crustaceans trout eat to survive and the fly patterns we use to imitate them. Tim is well known for his instructional fly-tying videos featured on his YouTube channel Tightline Video, where you can view nearly 600 fly tying videos. https://www.youtube.com/user/tightlinevideo He has a web site too https://www.tightlinevideo.com/ Tim also recently competed in a tie off with Tom Rosenbauer and is a frequent guest on Tom's podcast. There is a link below in the Tips and Tricks section to Tom's podcast. Tim vs. Tom tie-off: The Mouserat This will be a 2-hour meeting. Tim will be presenting on what trout like to eat for the first hour and will be doing a fly tying presentation for the second hour. We will be sending out the details of the meeting shortly, so keep an eye on your inbox.

Casting Practice

Cancelled until further notice OPTU Teams with Dry Creek Outfitters to host a casting practice every Saturday at 8:00 am, at Ft Lowell Park. Everyone is welcome regardless of skill level. Most days there is extra equipment and experienced casters to help out beginners. 

Project Healing Waters

OPTU was awarded the Club Excellence Award from Project Healing Waters. The CEO of Project Healing Waters, Todd Desgrosseilliers, presented the award to our board, Robin Marsett, and several of our members in Project Healing Waters. OPTU has earned this recognition with our ten year plus support of our local program. An extra special thanks goes out to Robin Marsett, Jim Owen and Joe Fagan for helping to kick start OPTU's work with PHWFF, and for their continued support. They have all put in a great amount of time and effort into helping Project Healing Waters, and have had a tremendous impact on many lives. Bryan Eto, Joe Vitelli, Whitey Kuebler and many more have also helped PHWFF immensely, and we are all extremely grateful for their great work and accomplishments. A big thank you also goes out to all of our PHWFF members. We thank you for your service, and are looking forward to continuing to support PHWFF for many years to come.

Conservation

CONSERVATION:  The Arizona State Council of Trout Unlimited has created a new program for Conservation in Arizona. Volunteers are members from Trout Unlimited throughout the State, and there will be more information to come soon.
