Kevin McCoy is a missionary working with ORH. His ministry has been centered in the Florida impact zone. He has sent several reports of his efforts. Below are his reports.
Victory Baptist Church
Valdosta, GA
Pastor Steve Ward
"this church is serving as a hub in the Valdosta Georgia area they have more supplies going out than they have coming in so we have coordinated supplies to them ongoing."
Antioch Baptist Church
Franklin, GA
Pastor Matt Pawley
"This church is serving as a hub and also receiving supplies then transporting them to two other churches nearby and transporting supplies into Tennessee. We have coordinated supplies to them ongoing."
Victory Baptist Church
Perry, FL 32347
Pastor Danny Harrelson
This church gladly accepted the challenge to use their facilities as a distribution hub for those in need within their community.
This distribution has been huge for the church getting a positive testimony back in their community and they are actively and personally sharing the gospel with those coming to get supplies."
Faith Baptist Church
Perry, FL 32347
Pastor Todd Taylor
"We used this church last year for a distribution hub . This year ministry obligations would not allow setting up distribution. We did provide the church with 15 generators and extension cords for many members that were without power. This church went over to Victory Baptist to assist with unloading of supplies as they set up a distribution hub at that church. (see below message from this Pastor about the overall condition of Perry even prior to this other hurricane.)
We lost a lumber mill before Idalia, and after Idalia a paper mill closed six weeks later - over 950 families plus 300 contractors out of work. I know people are struggling and can use all the help they can get, right now.
First Baptist Church
Steinhatchee, FL
Pastor Paul Nawlin
"Steinhatchee was hit very hard way worse than 13 months ago. The storm surge itself was devastating, and then the winds were very destructive. A lot of buildings are completely gone, and the overall town is devastated. They were still very much in rebuild from the last major hurricane. I met with Pastor Paul as soon as the roads were clear to get in. The sheriff's office let me in only because of the ORH magnetic decals I had on my truck. The church only got minor damage to the front entrance and lost some gutters and a few pieces of metal trim. Their gymnasium had 2 feet of water in it ruining all of the flooring. All of their storage buildings flooded ruining most of the contents. The parsonage where the pastor lived had over 4 feet of water inside and the foundation collapsed, and now the house itself will be a total loss. The pastors RV also was flooded and now he has nowhere to live.
We went down with a team of men from Victory Springs Independent Baptist Church and did the initial cleanup so the church could open its doors and serve as a hub for the community. We went back the following day with a different group of men and did some more cleanup and clean out and help them with some tree cutting and other miscellaneous items the Pastor needed done.
The church will be used as a command center for all of the organizations coming in and will use their gymnasium as a sleeping-quarters for workers. They have partnered with a local food pantry to receive all of the incoming supplies, and we have coordinated supplies going there already. we are in the process of obtaining a fuel trailer to put on site so folks can fill up their generators. They do not have an estimate on how long it will take to get power back."
NOTE !!!!
> "Right now, the biggest need I keep hearing of over and over and over is fuel for all of the transportation."
"10/3 Yesterday and today supplies were delivered to Victory Baptist, Perry Florida; and Victory Baptist Valdosta Georgia "
"10/3 Today I drove 9 1/2 hours round-trip to pick up a 360 gallon fuel trailer and delivered it to First Baptist Church, Steinhatchee, Florida for gas and gospel filling up cans for generators and chainsaws. Our home church is going to fill up people's gas cans and witness in the process. The church is setting up a gospel tent in the center of town ministering to the community through prayer and tract distribution, face to face witnessing."
Made contact with the Steinhatchee fish market which first Baptist Church is running all of their relief supplies through and set them up for a delivery of food water hygiene kits and cleaning supplies for tomorrow."
