Jamieson elected to Pulse International board Shaun M. Jamieson, international risk manager, has been elected to the board of directors of Pulse International, an association for health, safety and security professionals in higher education who support travelers and international operations. Pulse has nearly 90 higher education institutional members. YPVRS renaming update Thank you to all who submitted name suggestions for the Youth Program and Volunteer Registration System. We received many creative contributions, and we hope to announce the new name in the near future!

Beeta Siwik, ORM youth and volunteer programs coordinator, holds a new TNT Storm Surge extrication unit ("jaws of life") on a recent tour of Ames Fire Station #1. Beeta also toured the Ames Police Department, Ames Public Library, Resource Recovery Plant, and the Ames Water Treatment Plant as a participant in the Leadership Ames program. The mission of the program is to develop leadership abilities and cultivate relationships to promote community involvement and advancement.

Program area spotlight: international risk Who I am: Shaun M. Jamieson International risk manager What I do: I help support the safety and security of ISU’s international travelers and operations by monitoring global events, performing destination risk assessments, and coordinating resources. Much of my work involves advising study abroad programming and doing one-on-one consultations with faculty and staff going abroad for business. I manage the university’s international insurance programs and the international travel registry. I also present to classes and groups on international travel safety. What I want you to know: International travel, especially during the pandemic, can be complicated and challenging. Whether you’re interested in some extra advice about pandemic restrictions, want someone to look over your itinerary to see if there are any concerns, or want to plan for a trip to a high-risk destination, I can help you have a successful trip. Whatever you need, or wherever you’re going, the first step is to register your trip on the International Travel Registry. This is required for all ISU-sponsored international trips. My favorite thing about my work: As a news junkie who loves to travel internationally, this work combines two of my favorite things in a way that helps others have safe and enjoyable experiences. I also really enjoy getting to interact with stakeholders across campus and learning about individual travelers’ experiences and about all of the exciting things that Iowa State is doing around the world.
