ORR Training Requirement
Trauma-Informed Care:
Understanding and Addressing the Needs of Unaccompanied Children

Good Afternoon Family Reunification Providers:

ORR has a goal to become a trauma-informed organization, and therefore has collaborated with the National Child Traumatic Stress Network to identify and develop resources specifically for staff working with UAC to better meet their needs, as we know that many UAC come into ORR's care with various levels of trauma.

With this in mind, ORR has announced the availability of a four-part webinar training series: "Trauma Informed Care: Understanding and Addressing the Needs of Unaccompanied Children." This series is specifically tailored to address the trauma experienced by the UAC population and features diverse expertise from the fields of refugees and migrant health, cultural studies, mental health, early childhood development, childhood traumatic stress, trauma-informed systems of care, and secondary traumatic stress.

The webinar is in four parts with sessions including:
  • Culture, the Migration Journey, Trauma and Assessment
  • Culture, Development, Trauma, and Socio-Cultural Responsive Interventions with Youth Ages 7 and Older
  • Attachment, Development, Trauma, and Socio-Cultural Responsive Interventions for Young Children
  • Secondary Traumatic Stress: Understanding the Impact of Trauma Work on Professionals
Effective immediately , ORR will be requiring all program staff to complete this training by May 1, 2020 and moving forward, any new hires    will need to complete this training within 30 days of onboarding .  Please send a copy of your certification  of completion to your assigned CSS, as well as maintain a copy in your personnel files;  these will now be reviewed during any future monitoring visits.

This training series has also been approved for continuing education credits; please see the links below for additional details and instructions for accessing the webinars:

Thank you for your continued partnership and please let your assigned CSS know if you have any questions or concerns.
