ORTIi News & Updates
Greetings from Oregon Response to Instruction and Intervention

You are doing it! Students are in virtual and/or actual classrooms across the state. Educators are continuing to innovate and persist in providing welcoming communities and effective instruction to their students despite all 2020 has thrown at us. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Like you, we continue to be impressed (and a little overwhelmed) by the amazing resources that fill our inboxes every day. We will continue to share what we have found to be most useful and timely topics from other sources, as well as our own thinking about how to best leverage the systems you already have as you continue with comprehensive distance learning, a hybrid model or, in some lucky cases, in-person instruction this fall.

Assessment and Data Based Decision Making CoP Recording
(Audience: Elementary and Middle School)

Click on the link below to find a recording of yesterday's Community of Practice on the topic of Assessment and Data Based Decision Making. There were some great suggestions for both virtual and in-person screening. Thanks to all who attended! This video will be a great resource for those who are still contemplating fall screening and progress monitoring. We will have a follow up to this CoP during which we will talk about and problem-solve with you about Core Review Meetings.

The University of Florida Literacy Institute is coming to Oregon!
(Audience: K-6 Reading)

Join the creators of the UFLI Virtual Teaching Hub and the ORTIi coaches for a special webinar for Oregon teachers. We will look at how their resources support effective reading instruction in both the virtual and in-person classrooms. Their message is completely aligned with what we know about the Science of Reading. There are two sessions: Tuesday, October 6 for K-2 and Thursday, October 8 for 3-6 both from 2:30-4:00 (and they will be recorded). Anyone who teaches reading in whole and/or small groups is welcome to attend.

A Comprehensive Guide to CDL Tech Tutorials from UFLI

Quick Overview of The Science of Reading
(Audience: All - especially educators new to this work or even parents)

Our friend Stephanie Stoller has recorded a presentation that concisely (14 minutes) and clearly articulates the what, why, and how of explicit reading instruction based on what we know about the science of reading. This video would be great for any teacher but especially for educators who have backgrounds in less structured literacy instruction in the 5 essential components of reading. She also clearly sends the message that solid reading instruction is essential to your MTSS and that the expectation is that ALL students will learn to read. She also has great resources on her web site.

(Audience: All)
