CITY MISSION HOSTS GREEN BOOK TOUR
Saturday, September 11th, 10:00 a.m., Union Church, 485 Columbus Ave.
Click here to register and for more information

The Green Book was considered to be the AAA guide for Black motorists who took to American roads. First published in 1936, during the period of Jim Crow segregation, it identified establishments that would accept the business of African Americans. To stay safe, Black people never left home without a plan and a copy of the Green Book.

OLD SOUTH SUMMER READ
Meeting in person and Zoom in September

The Theological Book Group invites the church to read Anne Lamott's latest book, Dusk, Night, Dawn: On Revival and Courage. It is a look at the tough times people go through, and for us it certainly includes the pandemic, and suggests there is a way forward. There will be a group discussion limited to 15 people in September. For more information, contact Don Wells.
LIVING IN COMMUNITY
WELCOME TO JESS YOUNG CHANG, SEMINARIAN

Old South Church in Boston has always been a teaching church. With our location near some of the best seminaries in the world, we delight in taking part in raising up the next generation of church leaders. They minister among us and change us. We are excited to welcome Jess Young Chang as our new seminarian. Jess will lead worship, small groups, bible studies and more.

Jessica Young Chang (she/her) is a third-year MDiv student at Harvard Divinity School who is excited about growth and transformation in individuals and communities through creative, embodied, mystical, and collective spiritual practices. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Jessica has a Performance Studies degree from Northwestern University and an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia College Chicago. Having cultivated a career in performance, writing, yoga and reproductive justice, Jess studies the intersections of mystical and embodied spirituality in Christianity and non-dual Tantra at HDS. During her second year, she served the HDS community as one of three chaplain interns, and this summer she completed a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at Massachusetts General Hospital. This fall Jess is thrilled to join the clergy staff at Old South Church in Boston for a year-long internship as a seminarian. Jess is discerning a call to chaplaincy, ministry, and spiritual direction, and is specifically interested in the intersection of spiritual care and reproductive justice. Jess is pursuing ordination in the United Church of Christ, and is a member of First Church Somerville UCC. Meet Jess this Sunday at All Church Worship--or if you just can't wait, send a welcome email to [email protected].
MUSIC AT OLD SOUTH CHURCH

Participants in Old South’s music ensembles must be vaccinated, mask inside the building, and socially distance. Safety mitigations like those we are taking — shorter sessions in large rooms, masks, vaccines, and distancing — have proven highly effective at reducing COVID transmission risks in a variety of settings. We encourage you to join us if and when you feel comfortable.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
"It seems that in spite of all the
advancements made in working
conditions, in pay, and in hiring practices, we are again allowing labor to consume our lives. That
consumption, however, is not a burden that is evenly shared."
