JAZZ WORSHIP: SUMMER SABBATH
In-Person, August 5th, 6 p.m.

Surrounded by the cool stone walls of the Gordon Chapel, Jazz Worship returns for this special summer service: Summer Sabbath. With the Willie Sordillo Ensemble and the Holy Spirit as our guides, we will sing, pray, listen, rest, and be nourished by communion. Following worship, we will feast on ice cream!
OLD SOUTH REOPENING
REOPENING PLANS

Through Sunday, September 5th you are invited to worship with us at 10:00 a.m. either in person (in our air-conditioned Chapel) or remotely (from wherever you are). In either case, whether you are in the Chapel, on your couch, or at the beach, we will all watch the same pre-recorded, edited worship services (what you have been used to for the past fifteen months). In other words, those who attend in person will participate in a "watch party" (via a screen and projector). You can still use the chat feature to communicate with the other worshippers, and you can greet old friends and newcomers in person. Click here for more information on our reopening.
CHILDCARE OPTIONS FOR IN-PERSON WATCH PARTIES

In response to our parents' expressed interest, we've made plans as to how we can support parents who choose to attend in-person watch parties: We will schedule care/companionship on a case by case basis. Parents should reach out to Kate (children@oldsouth.org) by THURSDAY to arrange care for Sunday morning. Caregivers will be fully vaccinated and masked while indoors. We will determine the location of care (inside playing with toys or outside) on a case by case basis, depending on expected ages, numbers, and weather. For more info contact Kate Nintcheu.
GROWING IN COMMUNITY
GBIO FULL DELEGATES ASSEMBLY
August 12th, 7 p.m., Register here

The Full Delegates Assembly will include details of the listening campaign final report, recommendations for action, stories on the 3-4 issues, and a proposal from the local action team in Boston on GBIO's "asks" of Boston mayoral candidates. There will be an opportunity to get even more involved. We hope to see many Old Southers at this important event!
OLD SOUTH SUMMER READ
Meeting in person and Zoom in September

The Theological Book Group invites the church to read Anne Lamott's latest book, Dusk, Night, Dawn: On Revival and Courage. It is a look at the tough times people go through, and for us it certainly includes the pandemic, and suggests there is a way forward. For those who would like to discuss the book, there will be a group limited to 15 people in September. For more information, contact Don Wells.
LIVING IN COMMUNITY
YOUNG ADULT POTLUCK IN-PERSON
Sunday, August 8th, at 11:30 a.m.

Fabulous young adults (and soon-to-be married folks!) Anne Dickinson Meltz and Phil Dearing have offered up their backyard for a potluck brunch! This is a classic OSC YA event. Bring a dish or a drink to share (label for allergies, please!) and come to 23 Boynton St, #2 in Jamaica Plain. Please RSVP and send any questions to Anne and/or Phil!
BELL TOWER MAINTENANCE

The Old South Church Bell Tower is undergoing facade maintenance and roofing repairs. These conditions are not unusual for buildings of this age and type of construction and need to be addressed as part of the long-term maintenance of historic masonry structures. All efforts will be made to retain the Bell Tower’s valuable historic fabric throughout the repair process.
GREEN TIP: REDUCE RED MEAT/DAIRY

Thank you to so many of you who participated in the OSC Small Steps for a Healthy Planet Survey this Spring. According to the results, 83% of respondents are taking the important step of reducing red meat and dairy consumption, but this percentage could be higher. Join us for a Community Hour Forum on 8/8 following worship to learn more about the four most significant ways that you can reduce your carbon footprint and care for the earth. And to see the full results of the Small Steps for a Healthy Planet Survey click here.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Happy Birthday to all our members and friends born in July. We may not be sharing cake, but we are thinking about you!
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
LAST SUNDAY AT OLD SOUTH

But if you want something better, then listen closely to the voice that says our worth doesn’t come from working ourselves into an early grave. It comes from the one who loved us on our first day, and will love us on our final day. And he’s asking us all to stop, and come away with him, to a place where we can remember what really matters."
Watch the video to hear Interim Associate Minister Katherine A. Schofield reflect on Rest and Renew.
