Beryllium Standard for General Industry from OSHA
Beryllium is used as an alloying agent in producing beryllium copper, which is extensively used for springs, electrical contacts, spot-welding electrodes, and non-sparking tools. It is applied as a structural material for high-speed aircraft, missiles, spacecraft, and communication satellites.
On July 14, 2020, provisions were added to OSHA Beryllium standard for general industry which include:
-
Permissible exposure limit (PEL) for beryllium of 0.2 µg/m3, (averaged over 8-hours); and
-
A short-term exposure limit for beryllium of 2.0 µg/m3(over a 15-minute sampling period).
Our experienced industrial hygienists can develop and implement engineering controls and workplace practices; provide training and conduct airborne exposure monitoring and other compliance measures.
