OSHA Outreach Trainer News

Share your Success Stories and Win a Prize!
We want to hear your stories about teaching 10-hour and 30-hour classes using Zoom, Webex and other online platforms. What has the response been, how did you feel about it, what did students have to say?

We will enter all success story entries into a raffle for several prizes of OSHA branded merchandise, such as duffel bags, and a  GRAND PRIZE of a $200 credit towards your next course through our OSHA Training Institute Education Center.

Send your entries to Addie at ahosier@clpccd.org . We would like to share them with others in our network, too.
Help Us Create an Outreach Trainer Network
We want to create a network of our Outreach Trainers who are willing to teach and learn from each other, especially if you’ve been conducting online (via Zoom or other) live-video classes.  New trainers can learn from experienced ones, and sometimes the other way around! Addie has been sitting in on online classes being held by our wonderful Outreach Trainers and learning a lot.

We are looking for trainers who are willing to have other trainers "sit in" on their online classes for a chance to mentor them and share best practices. We know you don't necessarily want to share your "secret sauce," but we think everyone could benefit from networking with other trainers. What if you could reach out to another Outreach Trainer to give you a hand and vice-versa?

We have over 400 active trainers in our region, and I bet most of you don't know each other! There's a lot of talent and experience out there - let's share that! Contact Addie at ahosier@clpccd.org if you would like to be part of an Outreach Trainer network.
Let’s Share Best Practices
Another goal we have is to share some best practices with our group of trainers using short videos. Let us know if there are certain topics you would be interested to see.

Addie was in an online OSHA 502 class recently with Mike Estep, and they did a pretty hilarious bit on instructing another person how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without being able to see what the other person is doing.

We know you all have wonderful ideas, and we'd love to make everyone's training better so the students get more out of it. And just for fun, we will give out raffle tickets to anyone who sends in some ideas, and it doesn't even have to be videos!

OSHA’s Latest Guidance on Teaching 10-hour and 30-hour Classes Online
BEFORE August 1, 2020 , all classes that you want to teach online due to Covid-19 restrictions require an exception request. Contact Addie at ahosier@clpccd.org for the latest information on asking for this exception. These requests do NOT need 60-days advance notification, but they will need to be approved by OSHA Directorate of Training and Education (OSHA DTE).

AS OF August 1, 2020 , you can get exception requests for teaching using an online platform approved through your local OSHA Training Institute Education Center. HOWEVER, you must give us 60-days advance notice . Check your planned classes and get those requests in to Addie at ahosier@clpccd.org  as soon as possible. We’re here to help you with this process!

OSHA Outreach Training Program

The OSHA Outreach Training Program was established to train workers in the basics of safety and health hazard recognition and prevention. OSHA authorizes trainers who complete the 4-day construction or general industry train-the-trainer courses to conduct 10-hour and 30-hour construction or general industry safety and health hazard recognition and prevention courses.

OSHA Outreach Trainer Portal

Outreach Training Card requests are now processed through an online database system. Outreach Training Cards have better fraud protection and include a QR code to allow employers and workers to verify the authenticity of the card. All trainers must register in the Outreach Trainer Portal in order to submit OSHA Outreach Training Reports.

The  OSHA Training Institute Education Center at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District  offers high quality OSHA standards-based training for construction, maritime and general industries at our San Francisco Bay Area location as well as other locations in Northern, Central and Southern California, Nevada and Hawaii.
