Respiratory Protection and Mask Recommendations
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), masks are largely intended as source controls to reduce the transmission of respiratory droplets created when people sneeze, cough, talk, sing, or breathe.

The CDC also states that loosely-woven cloth masks or loose-fitting masks, including loose-fitting surgical masks, do not provide much protection. Now, it is recommended that one wear more protective coverings such as multilayered, finely woven and well-fitted KN95s, which effectively block most large droplets and the exhalation of fine droplets and particles. For the highest level of protection, N95s and NIOSH-approved respirators are necessary.

The protection these masks are able to provide may be obstructed if the mask does not fit the individual correctly or if the individual's health is impacted by the mask.

PHASE Associates offers respiratory protection services including qualitative and quantitative respiratory fit testing as well as medical clearance. Not only can these services provide protection for your employees, but fit testing in the workplace is required by OSHA for healthcare workers.
