The people of Israel had suffered from a plague of locusts and God used that to call His people to repentance, that they might acknowledge their sin and return to Him. I suppose, by analogy, we can say that our sins are like a plague of locust that darkens the daytime. Yet, the swarm will pass. Your locust swarm of sin landed on Christ. It is how we know the light of day will come and that light is Christ's victory through the payment of our sins.
Lent becomes the preparation towards the grand celebration of Easter. Remember not only to return to the Lord, but Christ is always returning to you. The law calls us to return. But the Gospel is how Christ always returns to the faith He gave us with his saving gifts.
He returns to us daily in the mercy He promised and continues to give in the light of our baptism.
