A new online graphic novel collection shares personal stories of the COVID pandemic. The COVID Chronicles is a collection of personal stories made in partnership with Upshot Studios, depicting how many cope with the pandemic. From frontline workers to individuals who fought off the virus, these visual stories portray the unique ways the virus has affected us all.
School Reopening
The State is requiring all school districts to report daily data on the COVID infection rate and new cases at every school. This information will be publicly available on a new online dashboard that will have constantly updated data for your school.
New York State launched a COVID tracker to monitor cases at SUNY colleges and universities. The Department of Health will be issuing regulations to require colleges to notify the state when they have 100 COVID-19 cases and could have to transition to remote learning. To address, monitor and mitigate the spread of COVID across SUNY, New York also launched a case tracker database for SUNY's 64 colleges and universities. Updated daily, the dashboard will provide case counts for each individual campus, among other data. The dashboard is available here.
Voting
All registered voters can request an absentee ballot (under the "temporary illness" excuse). If you choose to vote by absentee ballot, then there are several ways you can cast your completed, signed ballot.
- Put it in the mail ensuring it receives a postmark no later than November 3
- Drop it off at an Early Voting poll site between October 24 and November 1
- Drop it off at a poll site on November 3 by 9pm
- Drop it off at your county Board of Elections Office starting September 8 through no later than November 3 by 9pm (see the list of county Boards of Elections Offices here)
In addition to absentee voting, New Yorkers can also take advantage of Early Voting. For nine days, from October 24 to November 1, registered voters can cast their vote in-person at an early polling site. Of course, New Yorkers can still vote in-person on Election Day, November 3, as well. Learn more about Early Voting and Absentee Voting.
Four states have been added to the State's travel advisory. Visitors traveling from Delaware, Maryland, Ohio and West Virginia must quarantine upon arriving from NY. Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands have been removed from the list. Learn more about NY's travel advisory.
The NY Department of Financial Services is extending action requiring New York health insurers to waive costs associated with COVID-19. New York insurers must waive cost-sharing for COVID-19 testing and in-network telehealth visits until November 9th. This extends the action put in place in March, which waived cost-sharing for COVID-19 testing and telehealth services.
A reminder to New Yorkers to get a flu shot. While we still handle COVID, flu season is fast-approaching. This year it is especially important that New Yorkers get their flu shot. Find a flu vaccination site near you.

In recent years, the Village of Ossining has been increasingly mindful of sustainability and has taken great strides towards reducing our carbon footprint. With that in mind, at the beginning of 2020, we were able to add two electric cars to our fleet that our Building Department's Code Enforcement Officers will use during the workday.
We are pleased to announce that both Nissan Leafs have been delivered and are ready to hit the road. What better way to celebrate than asking our community to name them?
We encourage you to participate in the following anonymous survey by Monday, September 14. The Village Board of Trustees will announce the winning name pair at the Legislative Meeting on Wednesday, September 16 @ 7:30 PM.

What can you do?
As many of you know, our local food pantries and non-profits have been coming together to ensure our community does not go hungry. We can’t thank these organizations enough for all their help. Below you will find links to our local non-profits that have been working in partnership with the Village of Ossining to distribute food to people who need it. If you would like to provide donations or volunteer support we encourage you to do so*.
These efforts will continue through this COVID-19 pandemic and thereafter. We are proud to say that many of our local restaurants are also taking donations toward providing meals to those in the community that cannot leave their homes. We will be including this information in a section of our Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) web page.
Please send emails to [email protected] if you know of any other Ossining based agencies that are providing food during this time so that we can add them to this list.
We appreciate your commitment to our community.
