Westchester County Update
In a solemn ceremony like never before at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla, Westchester County paid tribute to those lost during tragic events of September 11, 2001 and heroes who gave their life helping us all move forward in its aftermath. Standing before “The Rising,” the County’s beautiful 9/11 Memorial, County Executive George Latimer honored the Westchester residents who passed on that devastating day nineteen years ago, as well as those who have died from 9/11 related illness since the attacks. New York State Update
A new Virtual Taste NY Producer Showcase will kick off this October. This online business-to-business networking event will connect NY's agricultural businesses with potential new buyers and foster new business relationships despite the pandemic. The program pilot will "take place" in the Adirondacks and Capital Region. Registration is now open for vendors and buyers.

The Long Island Railroad launched a new app to help you identify train capacity. Riders can use the app to help plan their commutes and identify which trains are the least crowded.

The MTA implemented their new mask enforcement policy. The MTA will be issuing a $50 fine to riders who refuse to wear a mask on the subway or bus even after being asked to, and offered one. We need all New Yorkers to act responsibly and if riders refuse to wear a mask — they will be penalized.

The "Mask Up America" Campaign has been seen over 22 million times. The national campaign, with videos featuring the voices of Billy Crystal, Morgan Freeman, Anthony Mackie and more, have aired on TVs across the country and reached millions. Watch all the ads here.

New York State is providing funding for workforce development. Across the State, 66 businesses, schools and community-based organizations have been awarded nearly $9 million to support job training opportunities for more than 3,600 New Yorkers adapting to the post-COVID economy. New York's Workforce Development Initiative will help support workers who are helping our ongoing efforts to Build Back Better.

Six states have been removed from New York's COVID-19 Travel Advisory. Individuals traveling from California, Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada and Ohio will not be subject to a 14-day quarantine. The Northern Mariana Islands have also been removed, but Puerto Rico has been added to the list. See more info here.

New York will not ban trick-or-treating this Halloween. When Halloween comes around, Governor Cuomo will give New Yorkers advice and provide guidance so everyone can make a decision for themselves and their families on whether or not trick-or-treating is something they want to do this year.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will be held in a virtual format this year. The parade will be televised on November 26th, but will feature pre-recorded performances. The iconic balloons will also be flown over New York City but using approved specialty vehicles.

The deadline for health insurance special enrollment has been extended through December 31, 2020. New Yorkers without health insurance can apply for coverage through the NY State of Health Marketplace, by phone at 1-855-355-5777, or by connecting with a free enrollment assister.

There's still time to respond to the Census. While 93.4 percent of New Yorkers have filled out the Census, we need to ensure every New Yorker is counted. There's still time left to respond. You can respond by mail, by phone at 844-330-2020 or online at https://my2020census.gov. Spread the word and Let's Make Ossining Count!

The Nourish NY program has invested over $13 million connecting New York farms with families in need. The initiative has distributed 17.8 million pounds of dairy products to food banks, along with approximately 4.8 million pounds of produce. Over 610,000 households have received food sourced from 4,135 farms, which is helping keep businesses and families afloat.

Due to the pandemic, there is still a severe shortage of blood and blood donations are needed. Giving blood is safe: New York's blood donation centers have implemented precautions to minimize density and ensure the safety of donors and staff, including requiring donors to make an appointment. What can you do?
As many of you know, our local food pantries and non-profits have been coming together to ensure our community does not go hungry. We can’t thank these organizations enough for all their help. Below you will find links to our local non-profits that have been working in partnership with the Village of Ossining to distribute food to people who need it. If you would like to provide donations or volunteer support we encourage you to do so*.

These efforts will continue through this COVID-19 pandemic and thereafter. We are proud to say that many of our local restaurants are also taking donations toward providing meals to those in the community that cannot leave their homes. We will be including this information in a section of our Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) web page.

Please send emails to webblast@villageofossining.org if you know of any other Ossining based agencies that are providing food during this time so that we can add them to this list.

We appreciate your commitment to our community.
Tri-State Mask Makers are creating masks for those in need - healthcare workers to neighbors in nursing home.

Your donation will allow many sewists to continue with their work of love.
The Ossining Micro Fund is a non-profit organization offering interest-free loans to individuals and families who encounter unexpected financial obstacles. Our philosophy is to “pay it forward” – when a loan recipient repays a loan, the money becomes available to help another person in need. Click here for information .
