January 2026

Happy New Year! January is off to a running start with students back in session for the spring semester, and faculty and staff busy developing programs to support our land-grant mission.

As we move into 2026, OSU Agriculture is making important strides on several major initiatives. Planning continues for the Agronomy Discovery Center, which will elevate our research capacity and provide new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. We are also advancing the Beef Center of Excellence, strengthening OSU’s long-standing leadership in the beef industry and expanding our ability to serve producers across the state. In addition, the Robert M. Kerr Food and Agricultural Products Center is undergoing a major modernization effort, ensuring we remain a leader in food innovation, safety and value-added processing.

These projects reflect our commitment to future-focused growth and to meeting the needs of Oklahoma agriculture. Thank you for the work you do each day and for your support in advancing our land-grant mission. I’m excited for what we’ll accomplish together.

Objectives and Key Performance Indicators - Ferguson College of Agriculture

The pursuit of broad priorities and the success of critical actions depend on measuring specific objectives through key performance indicators. Performance indicators provide a mechanism for measuring progress and ensuring OSU Agriculture’s initiatives and priorities are effectively implemented and achieved. Accordingly, the following sub-goals emerge for the Ferguson College of Agriculture that support the priorities and critical actions of OSU Agriculture’s strategic plan.

  1. Increase undergraduate enrollment to 3,500 by Fall 2030.
  2. Increase graduate enrollment to 450 by Fall 2030.
  3. Achieve a 75% undergraduate six-year graduation rate by 2030.
  4. Achieve a 95% undergraduate placement rate at graduation by 2030.
  5. Create new curriculum in emerging areas aligning with OSU Agriculture’s priority areas, including certificates and micro-credentials, as well as expanding hybrid and online delivery methods and platforms to address the continuing educational needs of the agricultural and natural resource workforce.

OK Pork Council Supports Animal Excellence

The Oklahoma Pork Council made a generous gift to the OSU Swine Research and Education Center to support building improvements and ensure the long-term sustainability of this vital program. The gift is part of OSU Agriculture’s Animal Excellence initiative, a comprehensive effort to elevate teaching, research and Extension programs that impact animal health. The initiative includes the creation of the Beef Center of Excellence and facility and technology upgrades to modernize OSUs animal teaching and research units.

Modernization to Support the Food Industry

The Robert M. Kerr Food and Agricultural Products Center launched a major modernization effort following a $6 million investment from the Oklahoma Legislature to expand support for Oklahoma’s growing food and agricultural processing sector. Secured in 2025 with support from leadership of the FAPC Industry Advisory Committee and statewide partners, the investment modernizes equipment, product innovation spaces and production areas across the facility. FAPC’s modernization effort is one of three initiatives identified in OSU Agriculture’s strategic plan to serve Oklahoma and make a global impact.

Students' Hands-on Water Research

At the heart of the OSU campus, Theta Pond is more than a scenic backdrop for photos and evening walks; it’s an active classroom. This year, a team of environmental science students is studying the pond’s water quality, applying advanced sampling techniques and gaining experience with real environmental challenges.
