Prayer

You may have heard the statement, “a family that prays together, stays together”. Well, remarkably, that is true! It doesn’t have to be a certain formula or religious words. Just say your heart!

Morning prayer to start the day, or bedtime prayer at night is so important for several reasons. First, it allows your child to hear your heart and brings a sense of closeness and intimacy. It also gives you a chance to verbally bless your child, as you thank God for them and their uniqueness. Praying for their safety also puts a hedge of protection around them throughout the day. Praying with your child helps convey your values and standards in a natural way. And finally, praying with your child helps train them to look to God for help throughout the day.

There is nothing more powerful than the prayer of parents for their children. Incorporate it into your day and see a closeness develop with your child!

Virtual Event Replaces Annual Banquet & Annual Golf Outing
2020 Virtual Fundraising Banquet & Virtual Golf Outing Announced
For SONS Outreach

PORT HURON, Mich. - SONS Outreach of Port Huron, a nonprofit dedicated to providing recreational activities, team mentoring, leadership training and self-esteem building programs to youth in the Blue Water Area, has announced it will conduct a virtual fundraiser to replace its annual banquet and its annual golf outing.

The "2020 Virtual Banquet and Virtual Golf Outing" is being kicked off this week with a direct mail, email and social media campaign. The local nonprofit is hoping to raise $40,000 via the campaign.

The SONS Outreach board, along with Beacon Wealth Group, headed by SONS Outreach Fund Development Chair Tony Essian, is offering $2,500 in matching funds to kickoff the fundraising campaign.

"I think it is important that board members, and those involved in working with SONS Outreach, offer financial support to encourage others to do so, as well," said Essian.

SONS Outreach has been an important part of the community for almost 30 years.

"Since its creation in 1992, SONS Outreach has provided recreation and self-improvement programming to more than 14,000 boys and girls in the Blue Water Area," said Tyrone C. Burrell, executive director of SONS Outreach. "Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, we are holding one big virtual fundraiser instead of our usual banquet and golf outing. We know that the community believes in what we provide to young people in the Blue Water Area, and we hope they will continue to support us during this time of great change when kids need support more than ever before."

Burrell noted that SONS Outreach has been instrumental in turning around the lives of many young people who needed guidance and support during critical moments in their lives.

"One of our biggest success stories is a young man who struggled throughout high school, getting in with the wrong crowd and getting in trouble," said Burrell. "He got involved with SONS and we helped direct him to service in the military, and he is now 31 years old and a successful business owner in Atlanta, Georgia. I know that without SONS, he would not be where he is today, and he is the first person to tell you that."

Both Corporate Sponsorships and Individual Donations are being accepted during the campaign, which runs now through August 15, 2020.
