Discouragement

We feel discouraged when someone hurts us, we lose a job, a child makes bad choices, things just don’t seem to go our way, etc. We may blame ourselves, or even God.

How do we deal with this? I once did a study on King David. The Bible says, “David encouraged himself in the Lord”. How did David do this?

  • He looked to God and not man. God is our ultimate help in time of need.
  • He remembered all the times God helped him in the past. This built his faith that God would come through again!
  • He prayed and specifically asked God for His help in the present circumstance.
  • He focused on God and praised him in the midst of the problem. This took his mind off the issue and opened up the spiritual realm for divine guidance.
  • He looked for advice and counsel from the priest. Sometimes we need to talk though our problems and get a different perspective from a trusted counselor.

If you are discouraged – look to God for His help, guidance strength and joy!

Our volunteer Angels are an integral part of our program. They're our "boots on the ground," meeting people who need help for their substance use disorder at area police stations. There they offer compassionate support and provide the resources needed so those who are struggling can get started on recovery. If you'd like to volunteer for Hope Not Handcuffs, we would love to have you become an Angel. After a brief training session, you'll be able to make a huge difference in the lives of people who are ready to change. Come earn your wings and halo and be a volunteer Angel. Living Faith Lutheran Church in Marine City will hold
its Vacation Bible School July 19-21 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for children ages 5 through 12. The church is located in the old Ward-Cottrell School at 310 South Parker Street.

“In these confusing and troubled times, we want to provide impressionable young people with a spiritual foundation on which they can rely,” said Living Faith Pastor Paul Yanke. “We will teach them that becoming a child of God doesn’t mean accumulating riches or conforming to the ways of the world but accepting God’s love, which will be with them always.”
Themed “Treasured VBS: Discovering you’re priceless to God,” children attending will participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, make and devour yummy treats, experience one-of-a-kind Bible adventures, and collect Bible Memory Buddies, which will remind them of God’s love and they will be able to take home. They’ll also learn to look for evidence of God all around them through “God Sightings.” Each evening will conclude with a Closing Quest that gets everyone involved in living what they’ve learned.

Finally, children, who will receive a free T-shirt to wear to VBS, will be part of a mission project to provide nets to protect from mosquito kids while they sleep. The nets will be distributed to countries that lack adequate controls and where mosquitoes may carry malaria. To register for VBS, visit www.LivingFaithLC.org; for more information, call 810-765-8440.
