Lent

We are in the season of Lent, the six weeks leading up to Easter, which commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This has traditionally been a time of reflection and sacrifice on the part of Christians who want to better appreciate the spiritual significance of Easter. Many
people choose to give up something during Lent, like sweet foods or watching TV, to identify just a little with the suffering Christ went through as He was betrayed
and tortured. Although this doesn’t make one a better Christian, taking the time to
meditate and study more about Christ, is always beneficial.

Lent services are being hosted for the next 5 Thursdays at St. John’s United Church of Christ (on Pine Street), from noon to 1pm. Each service is led by a different pastor, and features a light lunch. A freewill offering will be received to support Mid City Nutrition.

Take time this year to focus on Christ’s sacrifice, and then celebrate the resurrection and the new life that He offers to each of us.
