Greetings!

We've included resources to help facilities file annual toxics use reports, implement toxics use reduction and on-site renewable energy, and safely manage chemicals.

TURA Reporting and Resources
Toxics Use Reports Due by July 1, 2019

Each Massachusetts facility subject to TURA is required to file an annual Toxics Use Report by July 1, 2019 for each TURA listed chemical used above reporting threshold during the previous calendar year.

For TURA, first reports for the use of hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) over the 100 pound PBT Threshold, are due by July 1,
2019. This category includes both CAS # 25637- 99-4 and 3194-55-6. First reports of this
category for TRI were due July 1, 2018.

What You Should Know About Installing On-Site Renewable Energy for Your Massachusetts Business

The Office of Technical Assistance and Technology (OTA) is committed to helping businesses cut energy costs, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and minimize greenhouse gas emissions by installing on-site renewable energy. This fact sheet addresses some of the most common questions regarding renewable energy systems in Massachusetts.

Antifreeze Management and Recycling

Produced as part of OTA's Massachusetts Clean Auto Repair (MassCAR) Guide for Auto Shops, this fact sheet has been updated with information about requirements for properly managing used antifreeze according to Massachusetts regulations.

Further questions about antifreeze management can be directed to Marina Gayl at [email protected].

Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances
In May 2016, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a lifetime Health Advisory (HA) of 70 parts per trillion (0.07 ug/L) for the combination of two PFAS chemicals, PFOS and PFOA, in drinking water.

In June 2018, due to similar health concerns, MassDEP established an Office of Research and Standards Guideline (ORSG) level for drinking water that extended the EPA advisory to include the following three additional PFAS chemicals: PFNA, PFHxS, and PFHpA, because these compounds share very similar chemical structures and the available data indicates they are likely to exhibit similar toxicities. Learn more about this group of contaminants in the environment, find out where they have been found and what Massachusetts is doing to address them.

Since 2016, the TURA Science Advisory Board has reviewed available hazard information for PFAS. Summaries of the Science Advisory Board's findings are available on the Toxics Use Reduction Institute website.
The Massachusetts Office of Technical Assistance & Technology (OTA) provides so lutions that enable businesses to enhance their competitive position as they reduce the use of toxic chemicals, energy and water.
