History Highlight on April 19
Save the date! The Old Trails Museum offers its free 2025 History Highlight on Saturday, April 19, at 5 pm in the La Posada Hotel Ballroom. Kevin Schindler, the historian at Lowell Observatory, will present Dark Skies over Arizona followed by a question-and-answer session. Using beautiful astronomical images, this program will illustrate the benefits of dark skies, how Arizona has helped lead the charge to protect them, and how we all can do our part in reducing artificial light pollution. Schindler has worked as the historian at Lowell Observatory for 29 years and authors a bi-weekly astronomy column, “View from Mars Hill,” for the Arizona Daily Sun. The 2025 History Highlight is made possible in part by Arizona Humanities, the Arizona affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Read More

African American History Month
The Old Trails Museum joins in the celebration of African American History Month, initiated in February 1926 to recognize the contributions that African Americans have made to our country. We invite you to visit the OTM Exhibits webpage to explore African Americans in Winslow: Scenes from Our History. This photo from the "Warren Family" panel is courtesy of Susan Warren, whose mother Johnnie, seen here with one of her wedding cakes, was a talented baker, cake decorator, seamstress, and quilter. Please contact OTM if you would like to contribute your family's story and photos to a panel.

The Norgard TWA Collection
Dale Norgard, who currently lives in the Tucson area with wife Denise, worked for Trans World Airlines (TWA) from 1965 to 2001. He became interested in the company’s history, and over the years he amassed an impressive collection of TWA artifacts, ephemera, and memorabilia. When he learned that Winslow’s airport was owned and operated by TWA from 1930 to 1953, he decided to donate a portion of his collection to the Old Trails Museum. Dale and Denise met OTM Director Ann-Mary Lutzick in Tempe last December to make the transfer (above), and we're so grateful that they did. The Norgard TWA Collection is now available to researchers by appointment, and some of the collection will be on display soon. You can also check out Winslow's TWA history in the Flying through History: The Winslow-Lindbergh Regional Airport exhibit on the OTM Exhibits webpage.

Book Talk for Winslow Rotary
The Rotary Club of Winslow invited OTM Director Ann-Mary Lutzick to give a book talk on the museum’s new title, Past & Present: Winslow, on February 12, during their weekly meeting at Bojos Grill and Sports Club. Among the club’s thirteen attendees were Secretary Erna Snukis, Treasurer Kevin Cox, and Arthur Brito (above). Past & Present: Winslow, which illustrates the city’s development through historic images of buildings alongside contemporary photos, is available at the museum ($25) and OTM Online Store (plus $5 for shipping). OTM greatly appreciates the Rotary’s support, which also includes repeat ads in our annual historical calendars like this year’s Winslow in the 1960s.
